The Collected Poems of Wilfred Owen

I read these poems at school. Beautiful and poignant. A good read and meaningful.

Awesome book, in very good condition

この名前は、Owen［オーウィン］と、発音します。イギリス人でも、「オーエン」と発音する人も居ますが、読書人の教養人だったら、まず、間違いなく、「オーウィン」と発音します。　世界大戦に従軍し、命を落とした、若い詩人の事を、"war poet" と、呼びます。Owen も、その一人です。　Owen が、世界大戦で戦死したのは、わずか、２４歳でした。ですから、全詩集、とは言っても、たった１４０ページの分量の、かさに過ぎません。　Owen は、反戦詩を書き綴ったことで、知られています。しかし、当時のイギリスでは、戦争に従軍することは、勇敢な行為と、されていた時代です。ですから、Owen は、当時、進歩的な人物と見られたことでしょう。　しかしながら、Owen の心中には、イギリスが、Keats を生んだ国、としての、気概に満ちていたのです。　２０世紀の英国の、夭折の天才詩人としては、この、Owen と、Dylan Thomas の２人の名前は、抜かせません。　この２人の、Collected Poems（全詩集） は、英文学の、必携書ですよ。

I tell everyone if it's possible to have a crush on a long gone WWI soldier and poet, I have done it. I love these poems. Owen's skill and heart shine through. I am moved each time I read my favorites and amazed at his talent. Current world events could be weighed in a better totality with a reading of these poems and Owen's distaste for war and realistic depiction of its costs. Every time I hear a politician mention the distancing phrase "boots on the ground" I think of Owen and how he can tell them a thing or two about the souls who actually fill those boots.
