Masterpiece from AlphaLab
As an EE and having worked in a building where faulty electrical wiring resulted in wildly wobbly CRT displays, I've always had an interest in perceiving or detecting these everyday but invisible fields. The Trifield 100XE has been on my Wishlist for quite some time, but never quite reached the threshold of an order. Recently I noticed this new model TF2, and the superior specifications and display readability compelled an order. The meter arrived with battery already installed. The new case design is smart, modern and high quality. With the backlight on, the display is remarkably clear and informative. The analog display (the bars) uses a logarithmic scale to convey maximum information at a glance. The digital read-out updates several times a second, frequently enough to track a changing value but still allowing the value to be read. The peak value digital read-out significantly boosts the meter usefulness by capturing short signals that otherwise would not be reflected in the analog or digital read-out. The hold time of the peak read-out is just right. While initially checking out the meter around the house, I was amazed that holding the meter in front of a loudspeaker produced a field strength display synchronous with the music playing (should not have been amazing, of course). The TF2's extended RF frequency range allowed me to check my 5 GHz WiFi access points and note the intermittent pattern of actual transmissions. While checking my microwave, I did notice a scale gap since the leakage safety limit at two inches is 5 mw/cm^2 vs. the meter's scale limit of 1000 mw/m^2. The centimeters vs. meters difference results in factor of 10,000, so the safety limit converted to the meter's scale units is 50,000 mw/m^2, far in excess of the meter's measuring range. So it's necessary to take readings at a greater distance. Using a wooden yardstick to position the meter 36 inches away from the microwave reduces the field strength to approximately 1/320 of the value at two inches. When I performed this measurement I found that my 10-year old microwave significantly exceeds the current safety limit, so I'll need to follow up on that. *** Follow up - March 11, 2018 *** It occured to me that a microwave oven is not a point source of radiation hence the inverse square law is not accurate at room-sized distances. Then I located a paper on the NIH website entitled "Exposure assessment of microwave ovens and impact on total exposure in WLANs" which includes an adhoc formula mapping the field strength vs. distance. The so-called "path loss exponent" is a parameter in this formula. It would be 2 for the perfect inverse square law. However, for distances less than one metre, and with 275ml water in the microwave oven, the adhoc value (as listed in the paper) is only 1.20. This change in exponent means that the RF value measured at 36 inches away from the microwave reduces the field strength to just 1/32 of the value at two inches. With this change of calculation my 10-year old microwave oven is just fine for RF leakage.

Wow! What an Eye Opener!
I bought this Trifield meter because it came highly recommended by several social media sources. I've wanted one for a few years and just made the decision to buy it. All, I can say is, "Wow! What an eye opener!". It's like having a new set of eyes, seeing things you couldn't see before! I measured around my work table. There was a lot of RFs coming out of laptop but you had to get really close to the screen or keyboard. At normal viewing distance, the levels were "safe" (0.20 mW/m**2) according to their documentation. Of course, you need your hands to be close to the keyboard to type but that can't be avoided. My router surprisingly had very low RFs coming out of it but I had always adjusted the router to put out 25% output power in it's settings. No need to blast my wifi to my neighbors. What really surprised me, was my table lamp was putting out massive RFs! It was well above the normal safe levels if you're close to it. I normally have it about 2 feet away from me which brings the RF level down to safe. But sometimes, I bring the lamp close my head when trying to read small writing. What's also very surprising is the amount of "unsafe" RFs coming into my bedroom window! I did similar readings from other windows and they are at "safe" levels. It's only "unsafe" from the one side of the house where my bedroom is located! As suggested in the documentation, I put up some aluminum foil on the bedroom window and that dramatically reduce the RFs coming in. I should mention with the meter, I could tell the bedroom wall was also blocking some of the RFs but the foil was more effective! That was interesting to know. The meter itself is sturdy and well built. It comes with its own case. There's a pamphlet and fast startup card as documentation. People complain about the backlighting and sound toggle buttons being in the battery compartment but it doesn't bother me at all. I have the backlighting always ON and don't use the sound. I don't have the battery popping out problem. Maybe it's because I bought it new. I've read conflicting reviews, 5 stars and 1 star, from people who say they are electrical engineers. Some say this meter is good and others say it's junk. It's hard to judge who is right. This is my first EMF meter. For my purposes, it works well. Using my "new eyes" analogy previously mentioned, I just need to detect an unseen light is there and that it's strong enough to hurt me. I don't need to know the exact details of the light. I need to know how I can weaken that light and be able to detect it's now weaker and at safe levels.

Great meter
I really like this meter. Seems to be very accurate. One thing that would be great if they would add would be some kind of an ability to look at history. RF frequencies are very difficult to kind of track down and they come and they go. One thing that this does, it tells you the peak and then it also tells you the average, which is very helpful. But when when the levels change so much it can be a little overwhelming to get a handle on it so that’s why I suggest some kind of a history where you could look at maybe a period of several minutes and take the average over that timeframe. Download it and analyze it. But other than that, the device is great. One other thing I would suggest to the company is that they add some kind of a handle or a grip to the to the meter because it’s a little slippery and I have to be careful that I don’t drop it. There’s a few other minor things but overall I think it’s a great meter.

I am EMF sensitive and this is my go-to meter
I have had this meter for years and it is super helpful in so many ways. I am EMF sensitive so this helps mitigate anything I might be sensing and has helped us become Wifi free and an EMF safe home. Very easy to use, and the customer support has been excellent. Currently this comes with us on home searches. Even though I research how far potential new homes are from cell towers, you would be amazed at how not all cell towers are created equal. This saved us from a potential neighborhood over a mile away from a tower (which is always my goal). I had driven by this tower multiple times without my meter and was feeling sick. When homes over a mile away from this tower popped up I was interested but knew it would be wise to do some due diligence. Very grateful we checked because my concerns were validated and the all the levels were very high. My heart breaks for those living anywhere near this tower because they likely have no idea... I've taken off one star because some building biologists I've spoken to have stated while Trifield is excellent at detecting dirty electricity, magnetic fields, and similar, it is a bit inconsistent at detecting accurate R/F from wifi, bluetooth, etc. My experience with that has been that it consistently gives a good indicator, baseline, and warning on what may need mitigation and I still recommend it. I will eventually get a Safe and Sound Pro which specializes in that, but for now this has served its purpose very well.

Valuable Tool
Everyone should have this meter because it helps you find the electrical hotspots in your living area. The older Trifield was not so valuable but this newer one has audio and a digital readout, very efficient at helping assess problem areas. We had a bed with huge ELF readings right at the pillows. Bed got moved to a safer wall and we sleep well now. Had a desk where everyone got headaches and the Trifield showed it was blazing with bad energy so we moved the desk away from the hot wall. We asked our electrician why we have some walls that are so high in electromagnetic energy-- showing up to 360 volts on the electric dial-- and he does not know. He checked the outlets and they were balanced correctly but there is something wrong with our old wiring that defies conventional knowledge. If you can't afford to tear out walls and put your wiring in protective conduit, like the building biologists now recommend, then at least use this meter to help you locate your hot spots and reconfigure your furniture accordingly. Low frequency exposure over time badly drains the body's energy. Don't sleep in it above all. Get your bed to a very low electromagnetic area for a better life. And while you're at it, turn off your blasted carcinogenic Wi-Fi. That's loaded with both low frequencies and microwaves-- a ticket to aging and disease. We don't know if the microwave portion of this new meter is responsive to Wi-Fi because we learned long ago to keep a microwave-free house.

Nice EMF Meter
This little meter measures magnetic frequencies, electric frequencies and RF. It comes in a nice sturdy case and has easy to read instructions. I learned that my phone is one of the biggest RF offenders.

It's the cheapest high quality product.
This is one of the best EMF meters out there. Good luck finding a cheaper EMF meter for what this one meter can do. So, what are its flaws? As stated by other reviewers here, you have to take the back cover off to adjust the audio. However, that's no big deal to me. Another con is that it's not as sensitive for measuring radio/microwave radiation. It is not going to be nearly as accurate as say, the Acoustimeter. The differences in price ranges speaks volumes. Not to mention, the 9-V batteries in all of these EMF meters are awful. This critique is not exclusive to only the TF2. It makes you wonder if the products would be better off with two 9-V batteries. I personally want batteries that are going to last over 150 hours, not 24 hours. Now that we got all of that out of the way, make no mistake, the TriField 2 is a top 3 product. Needless to say, it detects magnetic, electric, and radio/microwave radiation. The only other EMF meter that I can think of that does the same is the Cornet ED-88T. Though, the TF2 detects magnetic and electric better than this Cornet model. If you want an EMF meter that detects these three types of electromagnetic radiation, which is more sensitive to RF, purchase the Cornet ED-88T. The only other downside to this Cornet is that it might be a bit difficult to use for the average joe. Furthermore, I've personally tested the TF2 nearby a few power lines and electric towers up against the Alpha UHS Gaussmeter, which is outrageously overpriced, and surprisingly enough, the TF2 is just as good. The tri-axis for magnetic is what makes this possible. The numbers fluctuate every couple of seconds, but remember that the peak number in the top left corner of the screen is the most important. This shows the user the highest number the device recorded in that specific area. Let me repeat it, the TF2 is great for detecting magnetic. Additionally, don't touch the meter when you're measuring electric. A lot of people here don't seem to know how to use it. Due to potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, and other natural elements in a person's system, our cells naturally cause ourselves to show up on these electric meters due to electrical currents. Don't touch the meter at all after you've switched it to electric. For just under $200, you're not going to find a cheaper EMF meter that detects these three types of electromagnetic radiation at the same accuracy the TF2 can. The +/- 4% and +/-5% for magnetic and electric is huge. The lower the numbers for accuracy, the better, which explains why detection of RF is not as good with the TF2 because of +/-20% sensitivity.

Great EMF meter to start exploring the fascinating and hidden world of EMF
I've used my Trifield meter for dozens of hours and I've read every review I could find. And I've rented more expensive equipment in the past. My conclusions are that this meter is a great value and it makes it fun to start exploring the fascinating and hidden world of EMF. I really like it. If you're new to EMF, I recommend you start by taking magnetic and electrical EMF readings of the electrical devices in your home, including digital alarm clocks, ovens, microwave ovens, toaster ovens, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, table lamps, and where applicable, power cords. Pick a distance away from the devices that you want to use, be consistent and if appropriate, take readings with the devices on and off. I'm not sure if 6" is better or 12" is better. Pay more attention to Peak values than average values. Next, I'd take RF readings from your smartphones, tablets, WiFi routers and/or access points and other WiFi devices like thermostats, door locks, cameras and sensors. It's harder to get good readings from these devices because the signals vary a lot. Focus on Peak readings and take your time. You will be taking 2 types of readings: (1) EMF being emitted from devices and (2) resultant emissions on you sitting or laying down where you spend a lot of time. For the former, use a predetermined distance away from the devices. For the latter, physically rotate so you get readings from all angles. After doing all of this you might be satisfied and stop. If so, you've received your money's worth. But for many others like me, this will be the beginning of a quest to gain a deeper understanding of what's on, why and how to manage your risk. There's a big debate about what's safe and what isn't. I need to find out for myself.

Well built delivering consistent results
Easy to use and readings seem accurate and consistent. Well built, sturdy and reliable device. Without knowing much in this field, this device was easy to use with consistent results. If you using to assess your home , you could get away with hiring one as it’s quick to work out what is a problem etc .

Reliable and consistent. Worth it!
Easy to use and works consistently. I've been able to pinpoint hot spots for electrical activity as well as RF / Wireless which has allowed me to change my environment in ways that reduce my exposure to these things. Who would have thought that my alarm clock gave off so much static electricity, which was even still measurable on my pillow - disappearred when the alarm clock was unplugged. This device showed me the electrical reading coming off of my powered recliner which prompted me to hook that up to a power bar which I switch off once I get my comfortable position. Greatest concentration of electricity pretty much exactly where you sit. Not good for my boys! A very useful tool indeed. Highly recommend.

Das Gerät hat sehr schnell reagierende Sensoren und erfasst gepulste HF Strahlung wirklich gut. Perfekt zum Aufspüren von elektromagnetischen Strahlungen. Wer einen wirklich funktionierenden Detektor sucht, wird hier fündig. Die Grenzwerte sollte man bei der KI erfragen - da gibt es unterschiedliche Auffassungen. Nebenbei eine tolle analog anmutende Bedienung (ich liebe richtige Bedienknöpfe).

Really interesting to have on hand!
Given our dependency on technology (and because I'm a crunchy granola hippy), I thought it'd be interesting to see the EMF levels in our house and the surrounding neighbourhood to ensure we are not being zapped. Things to keep in mind: we live in India. Our house is a farm house in a semi-rural area, but is quickly urbanising. Our home is constructed of thick cement that honestly rivals a WWII bunker. It's my understanding people should not be exposed to more than 60 V/m (the standard ELEC setting) and 1 mW/m squared (the RF setting). What we discovered is this (and what the pictures hopefully illustrate): --My cell phone, which is an Apple 8 and generally connects to either the WiFi or LTE when using cell service, had a very high reading on RF, and it would frequently max out the reader. Most of the time it got 6-11 and up to 20 mw/m when the call was connected, and 2-3 when not connected. It was at .2-something when in airplane mode. Best to keep calls to a minimum, hold the phone away when connecting, either keep the call short or hold it on speaker phone when talking, and then put it in another room when done. RF is negligible when the phone is far away, so that's good. --Electrical outlets are really high at 400 V/m when switched on, to the point that it's advisable to switch off all outlets when not in use or when not needed. This is especially true if you sleep next to power outlets due to the positioning of the bed. --Though this is the case, the V/m drops considerably when one backs up even just a few feet. So, even just moving furniture a few feet away from outlets can help significantly. --Laptops should never be used when plugged in, because the EMFs were off the charts--it often topped out the reader went to insane levels of 900-1,000! I had no idea how dangerously high my computer got when connected to a power source, and now I will absolutely not use my computer on anything other than battery. In fact, I will be willing to replace the battery in my machine when it gets depleted, rather than use it plugged in. I wish I knew this earlier, as my previous laptop HAD to run from a power source on account of the battery being exhausted. I had used it this way for years, yikes! When on battery, no EMF levels were detected. --Our router showed 262 V/m. It too dropped when one moved away, to the point that where I sit the next room over, I have a reading of 0 V/m. --My husband's work station has a number of computer screens, a wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, tons of wires, and he loves his gadgets. He sits next to the router. With all these things, his station is 260 V/m at chair level, worse when he moves closer to the offenders. I'm trying to convince him to rejig his office. --The large yard enclosing our house (and most houses, I imagine) reads 0 V/m. --When leaving our house to walk along the road strung with electrical poles (as we do in the evenings), the reading is 60 at my head height and 70 at my husband's. When I hold the reader as high as it can go, the reading as 120+ V/m. The reading is 120+ at head height when walking past the transformers and junction boxes. I'll be rethinking the walks up and down the road, for sure. --On the second floor, the reading is 0: this is good, considering that the poles get more intense with height. Thankfully the house seems far enough away to put the influence of these poles to null. I can edit this review and include more info when we visit our flat in the heart of the city, to see if that makes a difference. Hopefully this helps either persuade someone to buy the product or be mindful of the things I learned. So yeah, great product, definitely worth the spend for the information it provided. Very easy to use.
