A Military-Spec E-Tool At A Bargain Price.
The media could not be loaded. As a United States Marine, an entrenching tool (e-tool) was part of my standard issue. Wherever we went, our shovels were always affixed to our rucksack. We would use our e-tools for digging foxholes in all sorts of terrain. Whenever a latrine was needed, our e-tools were deployed and quickly put to work. Even during combatives training, our shovels came into play as versatile weapon that could be counted on when no other solution was available. When I left active duty, I was able to bring my e-tool with me. It is still by my side, decades later, and gets used more often than many of my other tools. Since I get a lot of value from this tri-fold shovel, I decided to add a few more to my gear list. I needed a couple for my vehicles and another for my other go bag. I searched the Internet to see what was available and came across this one made by a company called SERGEANT.I was hesitant at first because this e-tool was not made in the USA. But as I looked at the specifications, I noticed that the specs were nearly identical to my military issued shovel. What stood out to me was the price of this shovel. It was nearly half the cost of other e-tools that offered similar specs. This one by SERGEANT also came with a lifetime warranty so I felt like I had very little to lose.I opted for this e-tool by SERGEANT and placed my order. When I received my package from Amazon, I quickly opened it hoping that I wouldn’t be disappointed. Luckily, my first impression was a thumbs up!These shovels felt just like the e-tool that I was used to for years. The construction was solid and it even included a quality nylon carrying case. I was pleased with my first impression but would it hold up to my testing process? It was time to find out.My wife and I happened to be putting in fresh sod when these shovels arrived. I figured that this would be an excellent opportunity to find out if this shovel would hold up to real world use. We had varied terrain to dig up and there were plenty of rocks to navigate around. Not only was I impressed with this shovel but my wife even commented on how well it performed.Bottom Line:If you are need of a versatile shovel that will perform just as well in the field, as it does in the home, take a close look at this one by SERGEANT. It is priced right and comes with a lifetime warranty. Hopefully it will work as well for you as it has for me.Watch my video for more detail.

Failed 2nd use
So far I've used it to plant a few shrubs around the house and it works exactly as it should. Update: Second use with this shovel and the plastic threads that hold the head on have striped so it won't hold any angle, I'm very glad I tested this before going out in the field with it. I'll be looking for an older one with the metal threads because plastic doesn't hold up. Update: Standing by their warranty they've sent me another shovel, you can't fault a company that actually stands by their products and warranty.

Strong shovel, thick steel, easy turn knob to adjust
My brother got a look-a-like from aldi foods, the adjusting knob on that one he couldn't get unlocked with a pipe wrench the 2nd time around and ended up returning it. I compared the thickness of the steel to the sergeant as we got our shovels the same day. The sergeant weighs the same and is about 5x thicker.I dug with it for a whole evening ~3 hours and it really digs up (and thanks to the folding points, lifts up) clay and even solid limestone rock very easily. The triangular handle helps give it a very good grip to get done what you need. It's much much better than a garden spade. I've had multiple garden spades break the first use. The sergeant has lasted a full day of work so far and hasn't shown any signs of wear.I've also tested this as a chair when you shape it as a U. It works very good by the campfire. The shovel bottom is comfortable to sit on.So far it's a keeper. (1 day of use review)

Well balanced, not too heavy for small hands, large enough shovel to get a good load of dirt.
I love this folding shovel! I'm not a hiker/camper, so the bag for carrying it isn't the most important to me, but I can see where this shovel and it's bag would be perfect for hiking/camping/emergency tool in vehicle, etc. For me, this is the perfect size and weight for clearing out my elevated garden bed. I can quickly shovel dirt out of the bed into my tractor front loader and then go dump it. All the weeds, and giant asparagus roots that I'm getting rid of were no match for this shovel and a little help from a a hand garden rake. Now my bed is ready for fresh compost and garden soil. The pointed tip with serrated edges allows you to get close in corners and scrape stuck on dirt away easily. Love this thing!

Quality Materials, Poorly Engineered
While the quality of the steel or metal was great, the mechanics of this shovel are poorly constructed. The Handel does not lock in place and is operating via a spring. If you go to use the shovel, the handle will fold over and is worthless. The shovel blade does no actually lock in place like everyone says by twisting the knob. I have to use a wrench to tights a bolt to have it lock into place. However, once you do that, you cannot fold it up anymore until you loosen the bolt. AKA, I need a tool box with me to use this thing. I am so disappointed in the product I purchased and wouldn’t waist my time on buy it again.

Worked Perfectly
Bought this for 4X4 beach trip. Used it to help someone who had bury a Jeep to the axles. Worked great but still need to try on mud

Great rugged shovel
This is the perfect shovel for meeting my needs. There are many on the market and I decided to get this one after watching a video showing it in use and how rugged it was as it was made to military specs. The case makes it easy to attach to my backpack, it unfolds easy and locks in place quickly. This is a rugged folding shovel and the price is very good for a shovel for this quality. I have used it several times and this is better than any I have had before and it will last my lifetime I am sure of that.

Shovel is strong
Good quality, heavy gauge metal, good size. Love that it folds compact, just make sure the big nut is unscrewed all the way if you are struggling to fold the handle, we did this wrong a few times before we realized what we were doing wrong. We used this shovel pretty roughly for digging dirt and moving logs around in the fire ring during our week of camping and it showed no signs of weakness.
