It is not "a little extra cost" as noted by another. Baking soda is $4.50 for 13.5 lbs at Costco in one bag. This is 7 pounds for $20. The tiny amount of clarifier supposedly binds particles together so your filter catches them more easily. Not something you really need to concern yourself with. **Q: Every week I have to add acid to my pool to decease the pH. Will these tablets keep the pH from increasing?** A: It is 86% baking soda, which will increase you pH. I would discontinue using a chemical that reduces your pH unless you are trying to raise pH. Pools only need three chemicals: Chlorine, Clorine stabilizer (CYA) NO more then 30ppm, and muriatic acid.
