desertcart.com : Miniwell Gravity Water Filter Straw - Ultralight, Versatile Hiker Filter with Bucket Connector. Emergency Kit for Hurricane Storm Supplies : Sports & Outdoors Review: Excellent Water Filter - Bought this to turn into a gravity filter. Worked like a charm! Pics are from my trial run before my backpacking trip. Poked a small hole in the side of the dry bag, screwed tight the little plug, attached the hose and filter, and then let the water flow! No leaks, or problems with the water filtering. The dry bag is 10 L (which I purchased from desertcart as well for about $13). Typical pre-assembled gravity bags will run you $75+. This filter and the bag cost me less than $35. For those who might question why I put the hose on the side (rather than in the bottom) it's because the water you're using might have silt or other things in it (especially if you're getting it from a lake or river) - these will eventually settle below the plug line - and is just one less thing your filter has to deal with. You'll get slightly less usable water....but less obstructions or problems with the filter and hose. Review: Great filter at a great price. - Took a bunch of these to Puerto Rico after the hurricane. We gave them out and used them ourselves. There is very limited drinking water and people are having a hard time finding it. I was very impressed with the quality of this filter, and how handy it is. We tried it attached to a bucket, and used plastic bags. Worked great! Just wish it had another hose segment.

Needs more adapters to fit hydration bladders!
07/02: So great.... but only after the x3rd try. Four stars bc I wish it came with a few common hose/bladder attachments to mix/match an easy secure fit. Trip 1: a couple weeks ago, I brought this camping on an isolated beach with a fresh waterfall. I ended up hydrating by eating cooler ice that tasted like anchovies (literal anchovy oil spilled in the cooler). Plan 1: Scoop water in hydration bladder and sip through the filter..... I spent at least an hour trying all combos to match the bladder’s hose connectors with the filter and/or hose. Scratch that. Drawing board. Plan 2: I (field dress) attached the bucket connector to a hole in my hydration bladder, but it wouldn’t seal properly. I totally butchered the hole the first time, so I patched with duct tape x3 on each side, then resized the hole. It just kept leaking. Enter anchovy oil ice. Today: I am doing another excursion tomorrow and refitted my filter. I think I finally got it to work! Plan 3: used a 10 liter dry bag for dirty (tested with shower) water. TRACED the interior of the rubbery gasket thing, for the bucket connector, onto the exterior of the dry bag. PRECISION cut, with a sharp new exacto blade, the hole and popped the connector through front the interior of the dry bag. I cleaned up the hole by using the exacto along the base of the threading to remove excess plastic. Added the exterior gasket, screwed the nut thingy on, popped on the hose and voila! This method was tested in my shower and I will update if I have to eat anchovy ice chips. Hoping for the best! 07/06 update: worked amazing! the filter has a much better flow than some filters other friends brought. we ended up using this as the camp’s primary water source! 0nly one concern was mentioned, which was: leptospirosis. Not sure if this filters for that, but if water source is in an area with low probability, go for it!

More than what I was expecting!
We have been planning an off the grid camping trip for a few months now and I wanted to make sure we didn't have to worry about water. We had the perfect location picked. We had our gear packed up. We waited for the weather to clear(ish). And we were off. After the drive and the walk through the wild, we were at our location! It was perfect. Or so we thought at first sight. Between the mud and bugs, we set up camp. The wild life was amazing. The ticks, nats, biting fly's and wolf spiders, it amazed me why no one else was there. it was a very pretty location and the only thing that did not go wrong was this filter! Everything was wet, the food went bad the fire was extremely hard to keep up with. zippers broke on at least one of the tents. But the water was good. it was easy to place it on the dry bag. Easy to clean the filter when it slows to a drip. Easy to attach to a tree. More than what we were expecting! Getting a couple more of these bad boys! The trip was a bust! No question, but next trip we take will be outside the Midwest monsoon season, with our new filter.

great deal
all parts needed to make a gravity system but the bag itself , very versatile in its application. fits smart bottle . Tested against a sawyer mini on a day float on colorado river. Miniwell had much better flowrate in both straw an gravity application tests. Water tasted clean an i did not have any issues . Had to squeeze the bag to get any flow with sawyer mini. tested on Colorado river below Hoover dam and also in some Arkansas rivers. i have run about 15 to 20 gallons roughly so far, the flow seems same. picked another as back up or gift.

Flows WAY better than my Sawyer Minis
I'm so happy with this Miniwell Gravity filter. I usually use it screwed to the end of a 1 liter Smart Water bottle and I barely have to squeeze to get the water to flow in a nice big stream. There is no comparison to the Sawyer Mini's that I have been using for two years. I also hooked up my two Cnoc Vecto water bags to try gravity feeding on my last backpacking trip. I didn't even use the hose to increase the height difference & pressure, just screwed the blue bag directly to the clean side and screwed the orange bag directly to the dirty side. I hung the dirty bag from a tree. I came back about 5 minutes later to check on the progress and the full 2 liters had already gone through. I won't bother bringing the hose next trip. I just bought the unit with bucket connector, but now I see you can get it with two collapsible 1 L bottles for only 3 bucks more, I will be suggesting that version to my brother.

Well made worth the money.
It seems to as well made as a Sawyer micro pore filter. I bought the bucket fitting style. It sealed up nicely and works well. And it compatible with my other sawyer lines and filter.

Good To Have Around.
Received quickly. Setting up survival kit. We're not survivalists, but living in country one learns quickly to not rely on any outside help, let along in any emergency situation. This kit makes any 5 gallon bucket into a drinkable or food prep supply source. By using only the filter, one end is threaded to also work on a empty/clean 1 or 2 liter soda bottle for filtered(not purified) water for individual drinking. It won't purify any water-borne cysts or gardia that make for intestinal problems as that will require purification tablets. I will probably order more as having an emergency water filtering system for when out camping or hiking could/can save your life when miles from any hospital.
