Bought as a gift for a 3 year old. She liked it. She also likes playing with wrapping paper. Actually, there doesn't seem to me much that she doesn't like... Her father seemed to like it even more. It really is a pretty decent quality instrument. It is genuinely fun to play, and very peaceful to listen to. Definitely recommend adult supervision due to some small parts that could pose a choking hazard for little ones though.

There is nothing special about this small tongue drum but it does have some good, and not-so-good, features. Some of the good are:+ In addition to the drum, two mallets, finger paddles and a small stand for the mallets are included as well as a zippered storage case and a book that explains how to set up the drum and that has several songs most of which can be played with this 8-note instrument. The pair of mallets are short, but the mallet heads are proportionate to the drum for accurate playing.+ The drum can be tuned using instructions for doing so. For those who want accurate intonation the process involves pulling up the tongues and/or filing them. The drum I received did have a few notes that were not accurate when using a tuner, as other reviewers have remarked. But playing the notes in sequence did sound like they were in tune to one another. I played the included popular song, "Can't Help Falling in Love," and it sounded pretty good.+ The booklet describes proper set up in case the tongues are not flat to the surface on arrival. I am happy to say that I did not have to do that as the tongues were flat and smooth for the entire drum.A couple of places for improvement:- the song book included does not explain the notation at all. It is easy enough to hammer the numbered tongues but some of the numbers had a dot above or below them and other unfamiliar notation. Perhaps these songs are intended for larger drums, as the only tongue on this drum with the dot above the number was the high 1.- the color is not exactly gold. I would call it a mustard yellow with a tinge of gold. It's not ugly but I would prefer something more golden in color to accompany another steel drum I have in black.All in all, if you're considering sampling a steel tongue drum you may be satisfied with this one. And it does come in different colors!

I purchased this as a gift and was worried about the quality. This was a wonderful gift and it sounds great!!!

I'm not musically inclined at all. But wanted to get this to do simple melodies when I'm stressed. It feels like 5, 6, 7, and i are all out of tune. It sounds like hitting dull metal instead of the beautiful sounds the numbers 1 - 4 give. I'm going to keep it, because I can still just tap on those ones and maybe I'll figure out how to tune it better eventually. Other than that it's really beautiful and well made. I like that the numbers are not cheap stickers like the other ones I looked at. I don't like the little finger tips, though. They make the sound feel off too.
