## Description

GXR Interchangeable Unit Camera System features the world's smallest and lightest digital camera with interchanegable lens capability. The new GXR is an interchangeable unit camera system in which lenses are changed by using a slide-in mount system to attach camera units to the body. The lens, image sensor, and image processing engine are integrated into the camera units so the body itself does not contain an image sensor. The adoption of this new system has made it possible to achieve both "pocket size for go-anywhere portability" and "the highest image quality for every photographic situation and subject." In addition, since the image sensor is not exposed when lenses are changed, the camera's structure makes it inherently difficult for dirt and dust to get inside. Elegant design For the exterior, we utilized die cast magnesium, which has a strong track record in the GR series, and we covered the surface with a corrosion-resistant "pear-skin" coating. The end result is a body with superior levels of durability, light weight, and feel in hand. Building on the operation control designs of the GR series and GX series, the GXR has several types of customizable buttons as wellas the new DIRECT button, which the photographer can use to see many current settings at a glance. Sophisticated shooting settings can now be made faster than ever before. The directional pad, the three My Settings, the ADJ.lever, and the f

Review: Bold and unique concept, and thoughtful, rock-solid build - great Ricoh quality! - Oftentimes the greatest advancements are made when taking the biggest (calculated) risks, and Ricoh took quite the gamble bringing this product to market. While only time will tell if this product (and its modular system as a whole) is a success, despite its slightly higher cost of entry, I for one enjoy this product for what it is. I can tell that Ricoh has spent a lot of its time and resources on the R&D of this product, making sure that the design and build quality of everything from the module-(un)locking mechanism to every button/switch (and their placement) and the overall exterior of the product itself is intentional, durable, and well-thought-out. I love how the modules easily snap in and out at the flick of a switch with a satisfying click (like loading a fresh magazine), and how my hand just naturally wraps around the camera grip and body. The button placement and menu system is intuitive and logical. But most of all, I love the rock-solid build and rugged texture/coating of the camera body! This system, while not extensive due to its unique nature, offers a lens/sensor combination for just about every need, and this product offers great performance in a rugged, portable package. And the battery lasts forever! :) This is a bold move by Ricoh, one that resulted in a product that I truly appreciate. And if you see the product and give it a chance for what it is like I did, then I'm absolutely certain that you will enjoy it too! :)
Review: Nice photos, intriguing feature, but alas, not perfect - Ricoh has designed a camera like none other. Instead of buying a xx MP camera that, as technology advances, you simply have to live with or sell - Ricoh allows you to adapt your needs as technology adapts. Want more MPs? Buy a new mount to fit on the body. Want more zoom? You can get that too. Yes, most of these features area also available on SLR cameras, but how many are available on a camera the size of a medium point-and-shoot? As for photos - this camera can take some stellar photos, capturing the light, as the photographer intended. All too often cameras advertise spectacular new features, but the chip utilized to translate the real world into digital information lacks the ability to actually capture what the photographer thought they were seeing - pictures can end up too blue or too red...a bit too dark or too blown out. Ricoh's chip seems to handle all these tasks just fine and the photos produced are above par. Unfortunately, this leaves the one area where this camera is lacking - updates and modules. Ricoh had a great idea, but due to lack of interest (most users want a simple point-and-shoot or a very fancy SLR - this camera sits between the two), it seems that new features are lacking. You can certainly find lens attachments, if you are willing to dig deep enough on the internet, but it just never made its debut on the market as we had hoped. Overall I am quite satisfied with this camera and the extra parts we purchased for it at the beginning. It takes great pictures and is easy to transport when on the road (something that makes taking our SLRs less and less desirable). Ricoh had bold plans to release some excellent lens adapters for this camera and we are still holding out hope that it does. This technology was just a bit ahead of its time - or perhaps was outdone by the fact that affordable, who cares if they break and get thrown away, cameras are released on nearly a daily basis - and on cell phones to boot.
