Tub drains faster than with a standard tub shoe because the entire pipe diameter is open for water flow. In the standard tub shoe, the vertical female threads extend nearly halfway down into the bend, into the horizontal section, creating a bottleneck. This is a common spot for leaks: draining water percolates up the drain basket's threads, then leaks out from underneath the tub.If you're planning to tee in an overflow, keep in mind this setup will be taller than with a standard elbow tub shoe--even with a street tee.For best results, assemble everything upstream of the P-trap, starting with a dry-fitted drain shoe + gasket flush and tight against the tub flange. Only then proceed to overflow and tee dry fits.

Great bit of plumbing. Solved a problem with the tub installation, The supply lines were directly below where the "normal" drain fitting would have dropped down. Using this little baby let me drop the drain straight down and use a "Y" to hook up the overflow directly under the drain. A++

Super tight fit and seemed to impede the weep holes on the shower drain. I trimmed it a bit and it seemed to fit better and allowed my drain to sit flush on top of the drain adapter.

Worked as needed.
