Great keyboard and best overall
A great laptop for me using Microsoft Word. Slim, metal finish with blue tint, feels more expensive, it was reasonably priced. Light weight and easy to carry. Screen is smallish or standard but I like it that way on a compact desk. Keyboard is good quality, with responsive keys for touch typing. Giving a creative flow. Keys also light which is a bonus. An extra touch is the touch pad, that includes a digital numeric display. This can be turned off to transform back to a normal touch pad. The screen clarity is sharp and bright with vivid colours . Sometime I forget it is a touch screen, but yes it is. I had on old hp laptop before this one, which was very good. This is a few leagues up again. Best I ever had. Worth stretching the budget! CR

For the price is a good Laptop
ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UX3402VA. The laptop is well made and have a nice sleek design. Unfortunatelly after 2 weeks of use I had to send it back due to a faulty battery. I have bought another one hopping the battery would be fine this time. Out of the box the laptop was overheating just by browsing the internet. This was due to the all bloatware that Asus and Windows have pre-installed which were using high Ram and disc. I had to uninstall many useless apps, disable or set to manual many Windows and Asus processes and services in order for the computer to work properly. After doing this. The battery was lasting up to 8h and not overheating anymore. The screen is amazing, I love the colours but It would be nice if it was matt and not glossy in order to prevent reflections. The numberpad is quite useful and you can switch it on and off. The Wifi network adapter is not very good: inconsistent connection quality, weak signal strength, and occasional drops. The backlit keyboard is quite useful but it has lots of light bleeding which can be anoying. Overall is a nice computer but it needs lots of tunning for it to work as it should. For the price is a good Laptop Update: As I mention above I had to return the 1st Asus as the battery was faulty. I am very happy with the 2nd laptop I ordered. The battery last up to 10 h on energy saver. I ordered an anti-glare screen protector and what a difference!!. Now I can see the screen properly under bright light with no reflections. This laptop didn't have software bloatware as the other one. So I only had to dissable a couple of windows service processes. No overheating or other issues. Very happy customer

Functionality
I’ve been using the this laptop for less than 3months now mainly for work and all I can say is that this laptop is a good buy. I love how easy the keypad is while typing and the fact that I can easily use the laptop using my fingerprint to sign in. It is so sleek, love it!

Bargain at £519!!!!
I was using an older Zenbook 14 ux3402va (i5-1340p, with touchscreen) before this review and I can say that I am enjoying it so far, absolute bargain at £519!! - the price originally went from 650 to 600, I bought it and then a few hours later it went down to £519, Luckily Amazon fixed the price difference issue. Battery/performance - this is the main reason I upgraded to this laptop. The old one would use quite a lot of battery even in low performance tasks like google docs, and get hot on the bed. this laptop gets 1.5x-2.0x the battery and it doesn't get hot when I am watching films. The iGPU is also a massive step up, my old zenbook would lag randomly when opening tabs or watching simple youtube videos, so i would have to turn up the power profile, no issues like that here and the iGPU handles it well. the iGPU can also handle most newer games unlike the Iris Xe, it won't be anything close to a gaming laptop but you will be able to get at least 30fps if you turn some settings down. Screen - This screen has a 1200p resolution and a 60hz refresh rate, this is lower than my older 2023 zenbook and the resolution difference is noticable (note, I have very good vision, above 20/20) but I got used to it within a day of use. As for the refresh rate, the difference is very difficult to perceive to me, and I am used to refresh rates of 240hz, but the 90hz on the old zenbook and 60hz on this looks the same to me. Build - When you pick this laptop up it feels very thin and light, more so than the old zenbook, but it also feels much more sturdy, probably due to the laptop being more compact and having less empty space. I do however feel the hinge looks and feels a little more premium on the older zenbook, and this laptop also doesn't open with just one finger. Other - The speakers on this laptop are great and do the job, however the older ones are quite a bit better in my opinion. The older zenbook had very impactful bass, especially for suspenseful music in movies, was extremely clear at high volumes and was very loud. The newer zenbook feels like a step down, with even the speaker holes being smaller, but it is by no means bad. I really like the face unlock feature this newer zenbook has, there is also a feature in myasus that detects that you are in front of the laptop using Wi-Fi signals, turns on your laptop screen and it will automatically unlock when the face unlock detects your face. I am also a fan of the camera shutter function, it is a must in 2025 where everything and everyone is tracking and spying on everything you do. Overall feels like a very complete experience and is a good refinement of the older zenbook. Game FPS from some games I tried, resolutions and FPS might be low for PC gamers, but it is very playable if you have no other good options - Where winds meet - 1200p, Xess Performance, Low - 30-40 FPS in demanding outdoor areas, 50-60fps in underground areas. Oblivion remastered - 800p, low, Xess Balanced, 30-60fps Rust - 800p, low, 30-45fps Haven't had the time to test more. Just for reference, the older Iris Xe on the older zenbook would not get over 18fps with everything turned all the way down in where winds meet, but now it is playable with some play in the Xess profile I can use. Edit: I've just used this laptop to encode some videos, and boy is it a beast, it's probably more capable than my gaming rig, around 450 FPS on global quality preset of 7 in ffmpeg for AV1, if you want better quality, preset level of 1 will get about 200fps. I did a 1.2~gb 24 minute episode in about 3 minutes and it looked basically the same (was a 3d cartoon). This is a best in class hardware encoding machine!

Screen has horrendous 'screen door" effect.
Firstly. The goods, the laptop is fast, it's very well built and it's quiet, that's it! The bad. Keyboard is very spongy, speakers are worse than my iPad pro 11inch, the battery lasts for around 3-4hrs on balanced and less than an hour if doing anything difficult (fan on full, which is still quiet even with the power set to high power and fannset to full speed) The worst thing however and by a country mile, is the screen. The colours are fine, the brightness is fine, but the 'screen door effect' is unacceptable and renders this screen completely unsuitable for my needs (image production and manipulation). Basically, the touch screen is made of a mesh and where the vertical and horizontal wires overlaps a very visible (almost black) dot can be seen. This means the screen is literally covered in black dots. These dots can be seen at all times and with any colour on the screen. They can be seen clearer when the screen is white, which looks very much like an inkjet printers print when the white isn't quite white and thousands of tiny dots are visible. (Not to be confused with dead pixels. The 'screen door effect' is from the touch screen and is, or at least was a common issue with oled touch screens) I decided to head to Currys and check if this is normal. Ultimately, Currys did not have the Asus zenbook 14 on display, but they did have a few oled displays. I checked everyone (with and without a magnifying glass). I could not see anything but flat colours on any of these laptop screens apart from a lenova which had the same 'screen door' issue. I am going to be returning this laptop as despite being a good deal (£800) and being as fast as my Ryzen 7 pc. It just is not suitable for my needs and I cannot look at the screen without seeing the annoying dots.

Ultra 9-288v is the one to go for.
This laptop hits all the right spots. Thin, light, extremely well built with almost no flex in the screen and keyboard. A stunning touch capable OLED screen and excellent sound from the built in speakers. The Ultra 9-288v processor is the perfect choice for an Ultrabook and is exceptional value at the current price of £1049 with the 1TB SSD and 32GB RAM. It's the perfect blend of low power consumption and extraordinarily good graphics performance from the embedded Arc graphics processor. An Ultrabook that can last all day long yet fast enough to handle video editing and even some pretty serious games at high framerates was unthinkable just a few years ago, but Intel and Asus really pulled it out of the bag with this. The same spec for a Microsoft Surface laptop would be well over double the price and no better built in my opinion. The best 14" you can buy right now and at this price a total bargain.

Laptop is great, MyASUS fan controller is a let down.
Update 05 December: Unfortunately sending it back, it's a great machine when it's working properly, but the fan kicked off again a few times and the WiFi seems to struggle with little more than basic browsing, this seems to be a common issue with the soldered WiFi 7 adapter (Intel BE200), disabling that and testing with an external USB receiver gives better results, but again, shouldn't have to use an external adapter with a brand new laptop built in 2025. The technical specs give the impression that you will get a medium performance machine, which is what I need, but there seems to be a lot of fine tuning needed by both ASUS for their machine management software and Intel for their drivers - until that happens, it's a machine that doesn't perform to its full potential. Shame cause I've already copied my data and really liked the laptop, have to sanitise the SSD and reset before sending it back which is easier said than done. ------------------------- Update 27 November: Decided to waste another evening trying to figure out what went wrong (Yeah, I like the darn thing THAT much!) and I think I figured out what caused the uncharacteristic sluggish performance. Turns out that me changing the fan profile from the default 'Standard Mode' to 'Performance Mode' on MyASUS app caused everything to go downhill. Now that I switched it back to Standard Mode? Everything's absolutely fine and I'm impressed again (Incredibly frustrated by ASUS's choice of wording but I've seen worse). I have already ordered the Vivobook S 15 OLED M5506WA 15.6" 3K 120Hz OLED Screen | AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 | 32GB RAM | 1TB when the price dropped to £809 thinking that it's a hardware failure on this one (And it dropped again soon afterwards to £799) but honestly, I do like this Zenbook and frankly £300 is a lot of money for a bigger screen (Not needed for me) and a slightly better processor/RAM/Storage. Will keep using/testing this one and leave the Vivobook S 15 sealed in its box for a return if this one continues to perform well. And as usual, I'll update if anything changes. ------------------------- Update 26 November: 2 days into it, the fan started to spin at full speed when it was too dim for the camera to recognise me to unlock, fan stayed at full speed even after logging in with a PIN, restarting the laptop didn't help, only going into BIOS settings to test the fan helped (Not everyone knows how to do that, and frankly no one should have to with a brand new laptop). The fan never went on full speed without a load since, but the laptop has been incredibly slow, browsing is almost impossible on Firefox and hit and miss on Edge (Been years since I used Edge, great reminder of why I moved to Firefox!). This has been a common issue with different variants according to other reviews, some units are just faulty, I have tried a few tweaks but nothing is working, having it replaced isn't an option from Amazon, so I will be returning and most likely getting a different model, most likely an AMD one. It's a shame because I was impressed when it worked properly, I don't have the time for troubleshooting anymore however, and the risk of the root cause being a hardware issue is too high. ------------------------- Original review: No current reviews for this particular variant (UX3405CA-QL241W - 14.0" OLED Touchscreen - Intel Core Ultra 5-225H - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD) so hopefully this will help someone. First of all the item description and pictures might lead you to believe that this is a 2.8K/120 Hz screen (Or even 3K), it is not, the touchscreen panel only comes at FHD/60 Hz capabilities (I believe the description has been amended and is more accurate now at FHD). Also from the pictures, you will be under the impression that all variants come with a Touchpad/Numpad combo, again, this is not the case for this specific variant, it just comes with a standard touchpad. This came 3rd in my shortlist when I needed a new machine, first was ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED M5506WA Laptop | 15.6" 3K 120Hz OLED Screen | AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 | 32GB RAM | 1TB which is currently selling for £869, then second came ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UM3406KA Laptop | 14.0" 3K 120Hz OLED Screen | AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 | 16GB RAM | 1TB PCIe G4 SSD currently at £729, then finally came this Zenbook 14 OLED UX3405CA | 14.0" Full HD+ OLED Touchscreen Laptop | Intel Core Ultra 5-225H | 16GB RAM | 512GB. The current Black Friday discounted price of £519 was the deciding factor for me given how close the Ryzen AI7 and the Ultra 5-225H are in specs/performance, an extra 512GB of storage, a 3K screen and a cool touch/numpad simply weren’t worth over £200 for me personally. For background, I’ve been using another ASUS, Vivobook 15 M513UA 15.6 Inch Full HD OLED - AMD Ryzen 5-5500U, 8GB RAM, 512GB for 3.5 years without any problems, it would’ve still been in use if it wasn’t for a bad battery replacement that fried the whole thing up (May it rest in peace!). The first thing you’ll notice about this is the colour, it’s not black, it’s not silver, it’s navy blue and it looks so darn good! Been up and running with this Zenbook for a couple days and it’s been a good experience so far, performance is as snappy as you’d expect from a processor built in 2025, it whizzed through Windows updates and initial setup without any problems, handled all the 3rd party software installations afterwards and a quick stress test with a million tabs of demanding content running on Firefox while every program I installed is running in the background, this thing was literally cool as a cucumber (Please note that I’m not a gamer, mainly using RobotStudio, LibreOffice, emailing and web browsing). WiFi and Bluetooth work perfectly and everything’s as smooth as you’d expect, I will update if I encountered any problems. I would’ve personally preferred a 3K screen instead of the touch panel (This isn’t a foldable/tablet one, so not sure why the touchscreen), but it is still a great OLED display with rich colours and fantastic resolution for its size. I do miss the built-in MicroSD Card reader but again, most modern machines aren’t accommodating for this anymore, specially the 14’’ ones. With the screen being a touch one and with my OCD, I grabbed a Matte Screen Protector and applied it as soon as I unboxed it, it does not cover the full screen but it is a decent protection till I find an alternative. This has no RAM upgrade option but the soldered 16 GB one is sufficient enough (Specially when considering the hefty discount), the 512 GB storage can be upgraded but I will personally do a weekly backup to an external storage unit so won’t need to upgrade it. Overall impressed with this at £519, up to £550 would be reasonable, anything above that would make me consider the Ryzen AI 7 35 variant with 1TB storage. I will update if encountered any problems, otherwise please assume everything’s fine.
