Very Fun, Very Pretty, Very Light, Very Quick and VERY MEAN Family Game!
Grimm Forest is a terrific 'light' resource gathering family-level game. The art work and production of the game are superb! But BEWARE!! THIS GAME IS MEAN!In Grimm Forest, the players are descendants of the Three Little Pigs....who apparently don't like each other much. You're competing with each other to be the first to build one house of wood, straw, and brick. I guess pigs never learn! To do this, you will secretly play location cards that will send your worker to one of the 3 (or 4 in a 3-4 player game) resource spaces (forest, field, brickyard or market) to gather the material to build your houses. Each resource space generates from 3-5 resources every turn. If multiple players go to the same resource space, they split the resources on that spot. Odd numbered resources are left on the space and added to the space next turn. If only one player goes to a space, his/her greed is rewarded and they get ALL of the resources for themselves!!Each type of house can only be build with one of the three types of materials; no mix and matching! Furthermore, each house must be build in the same order: floor, then walls, then roof. Each section has different resource costs. The first player to build one of each house wins! Sounds simple enough...........but this game takes place in a Grimm Fairytale, and a DARK one at that! The ways Grimm Forest becomes a dark fairytale is the additional of FABLE and FRIEND cards.FABLE CARDS give the player ONE-TIME special powers, ways to 'break' the rules of the game, and most importantly....ways to SCREW OVER the other players! One of the best ways the Fable cards allow you to mess with your beloved family and friends is by SENDING MONSTERS to the various gathering spaces! Yes, Grimm Forest COMES WITH MONTERS (Giants, Dragons, Trolls and wolves!!)...and MINIATURES!! The monsters are placed on the resource gathering spaces (forest, field, brickyard) and effect those players who went to those places to gather resources. Some of the monster effects are very fun and VERY MEAN!Wolves discard ALL resources at the spot they are placed; players get nothing! So sorry....so sorry! Giants force players to lose their friend cards (see below)! So sorry....so sorry! The Troll steals HALF of a chosen player's resources!! Ooops....sorry about that-NOT! The Dragon destroys ALL a players resources!! Muhahahahahahahah!FRIEND CARDS give the player one 'special friend' (all the friends are fairytale characters like Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood, Rumplestiltskin, etc) that gives you a permanent special power as long as you have the card. The catch is you only EVER have ONE friend at a time!! If you draw another friend card, you have to choose to discard the old one for the new one, or vice versa. However, another way to SCREW OVER the other players is by giving a newly drawn friend card to another player! How is that bad? It's bad because the player you give a new friend card to MUST discard their old friend for the new friend you gave them!! Hahahaha!!. If they complain, just tell them, "charity is it's own reward!"Grimm Forest is a blast of game, but it won't be for everyone! This game requires friends, gamers and family that have VERY THICK skins! With the right group, the game will be a riot. With the wrong group, prepare for your table to be flipped!

A Lovely - Kid Friendly - Family Game
The media could not be loaded. I adore this game. It is a family favorite and one that everyone can enjoy from my father, sister, aunt, to my little nephew who is 10! This game is simple to understand, has just enough strategy to be entertaining, is full of theme and lore from all your favorite fairytale stories and is rich with art, models, and components that make the game stand out on the table! - If you have read this far and you want a game for the family to play - buy it (spoiler altert for my final thoughts)The Good- Easy to learn and play- Rich with theme, story, and characters you know and love.- Some of the best models, tokens, art, and box organizers you will find in a game at this price!- Just enough strategy and theme to keep adults entertained- Just enough player interaction to make the worker placement mechanics rich and engaging but not cruel (most of the time)- A overall joy to play - and a great replacement for common household gamesThe Bad- Some of the cards are a bit cruel (for children / and adults this can be upsetting) the dragon burns resources, the wolfs take the ones you gathered, some remove friend cards, force you to share, and even knock down houses. I enjoyed this - some may not.- The game is simple - this is not a deep strategy game where every move you make matters in a 4 hour battle of wits - its a fun family gameFinal Thoughts- This is a simple worker placement, card management, resource game. The object of the game is to be the best builder in the land - so you do what you must to build 3 houses before the other pigs at the table. This game is a lot of fun, its beautiful in every way, and well worth the money and time to play! If you are to this point in the review - give it a go!Best wishes!

A great game for game night with friends, both experienced and newbies
We needed an interactive game for a new group of friends, some with extensive gaming experience and some brand new to the hobby. Grimm Forest fit the bill perfectly in the following areas:Game Mechanics - The depth of Grimm Forest comes from the interaction of the players themselves as they must anticipate and adjust to what they think the other players will do. All players secretly select the placement for their piece, with the realization that how others play will have a dramatic impact on their ability to execute their plans. There are quick methods to adjust to the games changing dynamics, meaning every turn becomes a new challenge of guessing and reacting.Game Presence - The game itself is beautiful, with luscious colors and dramatic pieces that make the experience enjoyable to simply look at. The high-quality components feel like you have made a substantial investment in a well designed and well-built game.Game Length and complexity - We played with two players and five players, and both experiences were satisfying. The speed of the game does not significantly slow down with more players and there is substantial interaction between players to keep the game interesting even for those who are waiting their turn. We played a full game in about 45 minutes to an hour. The rules are clearly laid out and simple to follow.Enjoyed every aspect of this game and it is now looked to as a favorite of the group.

Very fun game!
This game is fun to play and takes about an hour or so. You have the opportunity to be ruthless against your opponents or you can take it easy if you want to keep having friends. This is a very fun game! It took a while to go through the rules and figure everything out but once we had done that it was smooth sailing. There's a lot of tiny pieces to the game. I spent a good 15 minutes punching out all the cardboard pieces. The miniatures are well made and quite detailed. My only complaint about the game is that my dragon miniature is missing his head. Unfortunately it took me several months to open the game and find someone to play with me so it was way out of the return window to do anything about it.
