A beautiful festive read.
The most famous poem about Christmas Eve has to be ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. For generations this poem has been read to excited youngsters. Originally published in 1823 the artist P.J. Lynch has added his beautiful drawings to the poem and created a must read for 2023.Feeling like you have just stepped into the Victorian era the illustrations capture the words of Clement C. Moore perfectly. This paperback edition is around A4 in size and opens in landscape. The illustrations are full-page with and are mesmerising to the eye. With a joyful and warming feel to it you can’t go wrong with the most festive poem there is and why not share the joy of Christmas with little ones this yearA beautiful book that will be sort after and read year after year.*I receive a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

Much brighter illustrations than the 2021 hardback version - yay!
Two years ago we read this Walker Books edition, illustrated by the same (Lynch), and had to use a torch to see the pictures. The publisher seems to have taken this on board, as this paperback edition has no need of such tools, words and illustrations are easily visible and make this the perfect December seasonal book. The words are the classic text of the poem, and this new set of illustrations pays homage to the tone, period and words, giving a Dickensian era vision to the lines that a lot of other recent editions ignore and try to cute-sify or modernise.A lovely edition celebrating the roots of the book and the start of how we first started collecting our 'modern' Christmas traditions together. For ages 3-8.With thanks to Walker Books for providing a sample reading copy.
