A well written and illustrated book on Wessex embroidery. It's really a pity that this book is out of print, as it shows how simple embroidery similar to blackwork and hardanger, can make such stunning patterns by the subtle ( and not so subtle) use of colour and stitch combinations to create such stunning fabric decoration. A counted thread embroidery which is a delightful change from counted cross stitch but still utilizing the colours of the rainbow, leaving room for the needleworker to create a unique piece by utilizing their own choices of colours and stitches. It's shown mainly used as a sampler or decor item, but I could see it used to trim fashion garments as well, in place of bought trims, bands or edgings.

Wessex Stitchery
What a wonderful thing to connect woman to woman over time...stretching out over the decades and into centuries. A simple needle and thread. This happens to be a wonderful book stock full of embroidered ideas. It's not very available as it's out of print, but it's a joy. If you're lucky enough to have a copy, like me, consider sharing it with an embroidery group by just passing it around and stitching together. They'll like you as much as if you brought a big plate of chocolate chip cookies!!
