This kit is a middle ground kit somewhere between the pocket microscopes and a junior high classroom model.The case and kit have lots of tools included but they will likely need replacing as your little learner gets more sophisticated over time. The tweezers are a flimsy plastic and won't hold much. The spudger and simulated (not sharp) scalpel can mush, move and clumsily cut but they won't do any real cutting.I'm reminded of the manual burn scene from Apollo 13 when dialing in the scope. The action of the scope is like a budget tripod. It does what it's supposed to do, but it flies all over the place when you're adjusting it. None of the directions of motion: spinning the magnifiers, adjusting focus, clipping in a slide, or attaching a cell phone with the included adapter have a solid feel to them.The space I see this microscope kit being useful is for a kid who outgrew the video pocket microscope but is still in the lower elementary level. They'll need a set of slides or something they want to make their own slide of to be enjoyable on day 1.The backlight is sufficient and the color filters are helpful for some applications.I wouldn't get this for proper classroom use, but as an intro or novice scope to try your hand at slide making it is sufficient.The images on the case are from an electron microscope and not at all what you will see through the eyepiece.

This microscope is quite lightweight. I anticipated a sturdier model, which would not move so easily on the table. However, focusing on the slide is straightforward. The built-in LED light is convenient for illuminating specimens. It includes one prepared slide and several blank ones. The best feature is the included case, which helps to keep everything organized and neat. It's great for kids!
