For example, if a room is 12 ft. wide x 12 ft. deep x 9 ft. high, then 12x12x9 = 1,300 cubic feet. The theory is that the AS-550 will scrub the air in a room this size in a little over a couple of minutes (1300 cubic feet / 550 cubic feet per minute = 2.36 minutes to make one full exchange of the air). Finally, these ratings only make any sense if the air scrubber is being used as a negative air machine (meaning filtered air is being pumped outside through ducting attached to the scrubber, and the room has been adequately sealed with plastic, etc.). If the air scrubber is just set up to run in a room without the duct work to send the filtered air outside, then the scrubber is scrubbing both filtered and non-filtered air. I'm using my AS-550 for a basement demolition (1,000 sf x 7 ft. ceilings) and it works fine... if I give it enough time. If money were not a concern I would have bought a unit rated at 2,000 CFM, but that's a much higher price point. In summary, my opinion is that the AS-550 is excellent for a large bedroom or average living room.

does this come with filters, the answer below does not answer this question?

Margaret is partially correct: do not vacuum the hepa filter unless using a hepa vacuum. However, you can take a non hepa vacuum and clean it outside. Or, with a compressor set to 40psi, take the filter outside and blow it out from the backside (the reverse of air flow). Regardless of the method , it is best to clean filters outside. Wear a mask while cleaning it.

I won’t do any interior work without one. I found out about air scrubbers earlier this year when I helped a friend demo a bathroom. I had some work come up for a kitchen remodel and decided I should get one. Leaves the air clean, you can see how much dust the pre filter catches alone and it really moves a good amount of air. Not too big, and pretty quiet even at max flow. Seems durable but time will tell. Hoping the best for this unit as it’s already working wonders.

I’m a home owner in the middle of a construction project. The dust from the demo and dry wall sanding, cutting etc was making me cough and giving me some shortness of breath. I was also getting upset about the chemical smells in the house from paint primer, glues, etc. So I decided to try this unit. At the time of purchase I decided to also buy more of the regular filters (i think they are called B filters) , and some of the carbon filters, because apparently the carbon filters remove chemicals and chemical smells from the air. So all in all I spent like $900-$1000. My feeling is that if a $1000 investment keeps my lungs and my mitochondria healthier, I’m 100% in! So the first thing I noticed was you just plug in and turn on. It’s really that easy. But like I said, I did buy the carbon filters so I installed that, and when I say install I mean just place inside and shut the door. Again, very easy! I put the machine on full speed, left the house for several hours and when I came home the air was 100% cleaner and a huge percentage of the smell in the air was gone. I plan to run this in my house non stop until the entire construction project is done. I wish I had bought it earlier because it does not pick up all the dust that is already settled. It only picks up dust that is floating through the air. If I had installed it earlier it would have prevented a lot of this mess!
