Good heavy duty abrasive -- lasts longer if you use it wet
I use this as a second step in resurrecting old hand planes (after degreasing). I cut off a piece, 18 to 30 inches depending on the size of the plane, clamp it onto plate glass, and use it both to flatten the soles, and to remove heavier rust from the outside surfaces of the "wings". It works well, but if used dry it tends to wear down faster, and get clogged up. I use car glass cleaner as a cheap lubricant - the "cloth" lasts longer, and I can clean off the swarf more easily.

It works and it is good but it does seem to clog/wear out faster than other brands.
I like to work with wood and especially to turn wood on a lathe.I bought this as it is tearable being clothe backed. A professional wood turner recommends uses cloth backed sand-paper and I wanted to try this out.So I bought some of this in 180 grit. I find that I start my sanding at 180 grit. So I started with this one. It tears at what I would consider the right amount of force. It takes some but not too much. It folds appropriately for use by hand. And it sands well. I like that the cloth backing is more flexible and it conforms more easily to the rounded shapes I am making than the standard paper discs do.I have however noticed that the grit does measurably wear out faster than the grit on my Mirka 5" round discs. I don't know if this is an issue with it being a different kind of grit or if this is something related to it being cloth-backed.I have enjoyed using it and I like using cloth backed. For the moment I would buy more in the future.I bought a different brand, the one actually used by the professional woodturner. I will do a comparison and if I should find that the other brand lasts for a substantially longer time or the same or less then I will update my review accordingly.

Perfect for restoring rusted planes and other tools
I use a long strip of this, clamped to my table saw, to remove rust and grime from antique Stanley planes that I have collected. It’s the perfect width and having a long length is much better for this task than single sheets end to end.
