I always keep a spare one in the drawer in case I lose one because It's too handy to live without. Note that the tool needs to have Loctite Blue or Red (thread locker) applied to keep it permanently screwed in place. I use the tool often to open a package, pop open battery doors in devices, you name it. The pen writes in a fine line black ink. (I like fine line pens) The whistle calls my German Shepherd and Pit Bull from a half mile away, and it's always in my pocket. About the only thing I don't use all the time is the fire starter, but you just never know when you'll need it during a hike or camping.

Nothing extraordinary about this "tactical" pen. Each component works, but just. Whistle is not very loud, compass is really too small to be useful, fire starter makes small sparks, pen tube is so small that you could only use it briefly before it's empty. I wouldn't bet my life on this. In a pinch it may work just enough. Packaged in nice foam. Disassembled parts may be easy to lose.Also, don't think this will pass through TSA screening without removing the striker tool.Too gimmicky to be reliable. It is aluminum and sturdy when assembled fully. Continuing to test for durability and effectiveness or until I break it.
