Before you purchase this item make sure it isn’t included in the valve already. I purchased a set because the description said they weren’t included. I went to install them and they were already there.

I have given this 5 stars because it works correctly. But competing shower valve products have integrated "stops" so that you don't have to shut off water to the house when working on the valve (cleaning or replacing the cartridge for instance.) With the Grohe valve, if you want that capability you have to purchase this option. It is just a couple of small pieces of plastic with an incredibly high $ markup. They should be included with the valve at no cost.

Perfect and provides the functionality I needed.

These Service Stops almost seem like an afterthought to the design of the Grohe valves. While the plastic shutoffs themselves screwed in ok, the clips that supposedly go over them simply didn't fit where they were supposed to (and yes, these were the correct item for the valve (Grohe 29142000.) The clips aren't really necessary, however, and actually make the stops harder to open and close.In my case, I had shutoffs accessible (with a bit of effort), and my local plumbing code doesn't require them, so I ended up not using the service stops. Your local code may require them, though.

Required Grohe extortion fee. These should be bundled with the rough-in or built-in to the rough-in. It's 2 plastic screw valves and 2 plastic retaining clips. Should be $4-5 max (or bundled with rough-in). Shame on Grohe for pricing this so high and not bundling them with their rough-ins.

RE: Grohe 1405300 Service Stop Kit-To my surprise, the two most recent 2914200 Grotherm Triple Function Thermostatic Valves that we purchased both had the Service Stops included & installed already. New Feature? So check your valve before ordering. It may have them already, thus saving you money.The stops work well and, to my surprise, close off flow completely despite being an ABS stem to an ABS seat- No washer. Speaking of ABS, since these are ABS, as is the seat, no minerals will build up and cause leakage. Note that these are full-flow when opened. No restriction is present. The stem packing is via heavy O-Rings for a good seal. (Be sure to lubricate the O-Rings before installing with Grohe Grease or equivalent.)Operate the stops with either a 6mm hex key wrench ("Allen wrench") or a 10mm six point socket.If you skip the retaining clips, as was mentioned in someone else's review BE VERY CAREFUL when opening the stops. The stem will unscrew completely from the valve if there is no retaining clip holding the stem in place. Think of it as a packing nut on a hose bibb. (The Retaining Clips are the white boxes in the photo.)One Caution- The retaining clips look like "One Time" clips. Once they are on, they will have to be broken to remove. (Nylon) The good side is the latch that makes them "One Time" will hold them very securely.If your valve does not have these stops and your service lines to the Rapido Smart Box does not have accessible valves, installing these will make life easier later- especially if you have to wait for replacement parts for the valve. Also note that they are required in some jurisdictions.
