You NEED this if you use UV lights
Sadly, I’m learned the hard way (using these) that most so-called UV bulbs are not UV at all! I every bulb I could find that would supposedly do both light and UV, and one after another got sent back with a one star rating for false advertising. This little card saved me a ton in bogus bulbs.FYI, the only bulbs I found that tested as actually UV bulbs were the small, low wattage ones, that are ONLY sold as UV — the ones that supposedly combine UV with heat are actually only heat. So I recommend getting two bulbs, one for heat and one for UV.That said, apparently the UV part of even the good bulbs stops working before the light goes out, so I’m making it a point to use this card to check every month or two.I sent one of these to my sister, as well — and go figure, her heat bulb tested negative for UV. There really are a lot of companies out there that figure they can lie to you because most people don’t have a way to check. This is the solution — inexpensive and easy to use (you can take the cards outside in the sun to verify they are working — after so many bad tests, I wondered, but they light up in the UV from the sun).So if you have a scaly friend that needs UV, do yourself and your pet a favor and pick this up. Oh, and since it’s a card, it’s super easy to store, too. This gets my highest recommendation.

Great!
We have a bearded dragon and we wanted something to ensure a UVB lamp that we have is still operational. The scientific UVB measuring devices are very expensive and we don't need to know exact numbers. We just needed something to show that the light is producing UVB. This fit the bill!! This gives us peace of mind as we anticipate our light nearing the end of its life. It is critical that bearded dragons receive UVB to digest their food so this product ensures our dragon stays healthy!

Handy tool to verify your pet's critical conditions are met!
Handy UV and temperature cards for your pet reptile. I used this for my red ear slider (RES) turtle's basking platform to confirm the end of the life of a UV bulb and the temperature for a new basking lamp. I've had my RES for 21 years now and she is a part of my family so anything I can do to verify the conditions meet her needs, is definitely worth it!The design and concept of these indicators is great! The cute lizard starts out white and turns shades of purple-pink based on the strength of the UV. The three color levels are indicated on the stripes of the lizard for reference. Cute design! Make sure to READ the instructions in the fine print on the UV indicator side of the card...it seems this will eventually wear out with repeated exposure. I left mine in the sun for a while as I ran off to tend to something which is a no no in the instructions. It comes with a handy blackout card size envelope to store the cards in and keep them from being degraded. The back side has a temperature indicator that seemed to work correctly, had instructions on how to interpret right there as well.I first wanted to see what full UV light would show up as - I did take this with a grain of salt as the UV is slightly less than normal as it's fall in the northern hemisphere. The 2pm afternoon direct sun the color of the lizard was a dark purple-pink although it did not perfectly color match any of the stripes on the lizards (which I assume to be low - Medium- high) but possibly in between the Med and High stripes. . These are rough and relative indicators of UV and that's all I think they could be used for. I would recommend checking these in full sunlight or full UV source first if possible to get an understanding of the relative 100% mark. Under my 6M+ old UVB bulb it was a very faint pink indicating that indeed it was time to switch the UV bulb out. The new one was a darker pink but certainly not as vibrant as outside - which is to be expected. Natural sunlight always wins the UV game! The temperature seems to be quite accurate and was handy to confirm the temperature of an off brand heat bulb I just ordered at the distance of the basking rock.I rated this item a 4 star since the UV indicator color doesn't quite align with the reference stripes leading to some ambiguity; otherwise, this would have most certainly been a 5 start item.Overall, this is a handy tool to verify your VIP reptiles conditions are being met! Definitely recommend adding it to your reptile pet care routine!
