Don't rely on the surge rating.
I purchased this unit because of the 2000w surge capability. It was only when I read the 2nd to last page of the manual that the 2000 watt capacity is only for 40 miliseconds; 0.04 seconds. The small motors I have run less than 1000watts, but on startup they run between 1000 and 2000watts. The problem is most small motors take more than 4/100ths of a second to start up. The manufacturer needs to actually list this in the specifications and not just on the back page of their manual. If you are sizing an inverter for any type of motor/compressor don't bank on the surge capacity to help with startup amps.
