This part works like a charm. The thing you have to do first is dry fit the part. You will see there is a gap on both sides. The part will slide off if put on like this and just squeezed. You have to bend the two ears in slightly and test fit. You want it to go on tight. You will need needle nose pliers for this. I made mine so tight i had to tap it on with another set of pliers.then you squeeze the tabs onto the chair arm. Also if the foot rest still slips its not the part. The teeth the part locks into are worn down.. i still had to get a new part with the teeth from lazy boy. I did not notice how bad my teeth wore worn down till I compared with a chair i hardley sit in.. hope this helps someone.

The pawl on my recliner had grooves in it that prevented the recliner from locking in place when I had the foot rest up. This cap corrected the problem. I adjusted the cap's tabs (the parts of the cap that clamp the cap to the pawl) with pliers so that only a part of the cap slipped onto the pawl and then used the pliers to tap the cap onto the pawl fully. The edge of the cap faced the teeth. This fixed the locking in place problem.
