So what exactly is coffee supposed to do, how does it aid your workout? Idk about other people but to me, coffee makes me focused before my runs, it suppresses my hunger during long runs and alleviates my heart rate a bit which makes my warmup little shorter ( for reference most of my runs are done in zone two which you can take somewhere between 120-155). Now lets say I take a ₹ 10 pouch of Nescafe and use half of it to make a strong cup of black coffee, I get the aforementioned effects and my caffeine intake is still not as high as that off one pill of this stuff. (Keep in mind you need to control your caffeine intake to not mess up your sleep and still be able to drink coffee for work later etc) BUT one single pill of this, and my heart rate goes through the roof, and that makes it harder for me to train in the specific zone I want to train in. Even if you are considerably obese, you dont necessarily want to increase your heart rate that much in the first 15 minutes of your session, also most of this caffeine will be released in your blood stream in a short amount of time, which is very different from lets say a pre workout that you sip on little by little. Not to mention, I don't notice the appetite suppression at all, on longer runs (which are typically longer than an hour) I get unbelievably hungry, which never happened before, most of my macro nutrients (and pre workout nutrition) are just the same and the pre workout is the only variable. The edge when it comes to focus part feels great though, its like a mild high that I start noticing around 30 minutes mark of my run, but if I finish the workout a little early, it gives me a mild headache somedays. All in all, I use this but in conjunction with another pre workout for my runs, idk if I can use this by itself and honestly I prefer a mug of black coffee instead, but somedays I just need the hit of caffeine and get going with my run because of time constraints. Go with how your body feels, for me its between this and a pre-workout that has sufficient amount of yohimbine (and preferably no Beta-Alanine).
