Wonderful Story!
I liked this book. The story was so real. The author is not boring like some others I've read. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the American Girl Mystery books.

An oil spill into the bay by the East Brother Lighthouse has sparked this story. Oil is spreading with the tides washing up on beaches and into the marshland for miles. Julie is the Student Council President and wants the school to participate in raising money to help cleanup the oil and help the sea birds that have been caught in the mess. Her idea for raising the money is a patchwork quilt which will depict the facets of ocean life. Upon meeting a wealthy man named Mr. Vernon whose wife wants to donate a Fender Stratocaster guitar, but he can't seem to part with it from his collection. The mystery begins when Julie's best friend TJ is asked to cat sit for the Vernon's since the cat is fond of him and very particular. While cat sitting TJ wanted to get a closer look at the special guitar. The cat jumps up on TJ and startles him and TJ accidentally drops the guitar and breaks it. Afraid of the consequences TJ hides away in an empty apartment above Julie's. She hears the creaking footsteps and investigates. Discovering TJ there he explains his situation and asks for her help. After taking the guitar to a shop for repairs they discover that it is a fake. The mystery is to find the thief of the original guitar. In the meantime, Julie must find the time to prepare for the auction, work with her group to get the quilt finished and prepare for the auction. Young girls will enjoy solving this mystery along with Julie and learn about oil spills and their cleanup. The American Girl collection is an excellent series for young girls. Readers will learn about the past as well as the present day experiences from girls their own age. Fun reads for all
