The backboard is good as Santa’s pants for a Sat night! This could have been the best in its class!
Firstly, I have played ball for college and club for 25+ years so I can say I know what I am talking about. So here is a review for those who are like me (not just looking for a hoop for kids).I was looking for a adjustable wall mount hoop to keep my shooting form and also get my kids involved. This was not my first choice, it was the second. First was the Forza adjustable hoop by Networld sport. Purely due to the weight comparison otherwise there is nothing much between the two, they both cost almost the same, however, the weight difference is massive the Forza hoop 17kg and BGH 42kg but purchased this as Networld sport literally have no people working in their company. So here is the breakdown.Positives:- Big Game Hunters customer service:This was absolutely amazing, I ordered on Thursday 11am it arrived on Friday morning thanks to Rose at BGH who was so swift replying to my emails on tech queries but she also made sure I had the item next day! so this is why I went with BGH as you want to make a purchase like this with a seller who is contactable.- The Weight:I realised this Is actually a good thing although 42kg once I got it , reading other reviews I was dreading it. You can clearly see how sturdy it is on the wall once wall mounted and when you make long shots, the level of stability requires to take impacts as such can only be achieved by making a strong wall bracket hence the weight , it all makes sense.- The Ring:The action and bounce back from he ring is very good.-Height Adjust:This works fine and very useful if you want to lower it for young kids , to change net or clean/maintenance, etc- Family fun:Me and kids just can’t get enough of this, we have spent hours and nights as late as 9pm thanks to our garden flash lights, if you are a basketball fan and family man/women it’s a must have!Negative:- The backboard:As my title states this could have been the best in its class/price category only if the backboard was at lest 7-8mm more thicker, this backboard is as useful as Santa’s pants for a Saturday night! Why .... why .... why BGH you made such a sturdy build and decided that this backboard is the one to be supplied with it? What a shame , this backboard is the biggest letdown and anticlimax of the whole unit, what a shame ....! I still can’t get over it why someone thought that this was the backboard to go with this properly made construction. So this is my main issue with this unit.- Installation:Don’t really want to put this down as a negative but it’s not a positive either, as it’s heavy and you cannot do this on your own. After reading many reviews about this I decided not to take this on myself although I fancied it since I am quite DIY savy, I decided to go to Airtasker app on this and got someone who know what they are doing with the proper tools. I paid £100 for the job hence why this is under a negative. Having said this, I am really happy I got this installed by a professional. There were many reviews about the fixing kit and the main wall plugs/screws supplied are insufficient, etc. My installer who was a professional construction worker knew exactly what to do with the metal M12 screws supplied , so these fixings supplied in the hands of a professional you have nothing to worry about.- The Net:The only other small negative is the net, if you are not bothered about that detail as much I am then it’s no big deal, I replaced the net with a thicker nylon knit one as shown in my photos. In summary, forget about using the backboard and go for clean shots , hire a professional for installation it’s worth it and replace the net (not a must)I hope this helps

Fantastic. My teenage sons love it.
This is a very high quality product and being able to mount it away from the wall makes it so much better than the ones that stick direct on the wall. The adjustable height feature is also useful & relatively easy to operate. The product isn't easy to install - obviously as it's very heavy - but worth the effort.

Mixed feelings
First thing that you must know is that this backboard is MASSIVE.It's very wide and weighs about 45kg in total so this is preferably a 3 man job in the set up.I would also advise against setting this up by yourself and recommend hiring someone as the setup is pretty complicated as well.Backboard performs well enough but makes way too much noise when the ball hits it and smudges and scratches are very visible. Also do not understand why they gave a noisy metal chain, you're better of buying a normal net yourself.Height adjustment is pretty good though.

Great product!
Fantastic, great quality item. Does take some time to assemble and you definitely need 3 of you with strength to put it up. Definitely worth the effort as it will provide many hours of fun, and in fact, already has done!

Beware the installation.
Positives first. Once up and having replaced cheap flimsy net that came with for a quality net it feels great for clean shots - ball action off the ring is good helped by good solid frame. Bounces off the ring are as good as solid gym installation as there is not flex or give - granted it’s early days. You will need to push 1k quality portable board to have as low flex and as good basket bounce as this. As long as you don’t engage the backboard you have a very good experience. it has good range of adjustments. For the money it’s excellent performance. The negatives. The backboard acrylic is very thin (I reckon 5-6mm - decent quality boards would have 12.5mm but that would still not be as good as tempered glass in pro boards) with lots of flex and the bounce off the board is very poor - I would gladly pay more for thicker acrylic or even the tempered glass option, but you can’t expect more at this price point. If you only go for basket you will have good experience. The frame feels solid but they explicitly say no dunking which is a bit misleading as they ship it with recoil ring.Make sure to check how high your net will adjust - mine would not go all the way up so I had to fit it 2in higher than advised (should be top of backplate is ring line but my ring would come 2in short only) to get full regulation height. The frame is coated but paint flakes off easily so I have many bold spots post installation and also the way it moves when adjusting rubs paint off the frame. I will have to rub mine in antitrust oil as otherwise soft metal will mean you will have fully rusted frame within a year.Installation is an absolute nightmare. You really need to want this to take it on. It’s easy enough to put together but it’s so heavy and balance is so awkward you need more than two people to put it up and as many ladders.I built myself a platform on ladders and used locking straps for lifting the board. It’s very very tricky. Hiring a lifting platform will cost you but will save you a lot of grief and possibly injury. You need to accept that the main cost of this thing is an installation not the item. The wall anchors are an awful design - rather than the bolt that you guide into the anchor which offers some wiggle room with hole positioning here you hammer an anchor rod into the wall and fit board onto them and secure with a nut. your holes need to be millimetre perfect and if they are too deep which they will be if you are fitting into one course brick wall where you will drill through the brick you also need a solution that will not push your rods back into the hole - it’s the worst design anchor I encountered it’s not even that heavy duty - a 10 quid set from a screwfix would outperform it for ease of use and how well they hold in the wall - I had to file backplate holes out to make this fit as my holes were a few mm out. If you are doing this buy yourself quality wall anchors of the same size and you will save a lot of grief. In summary hire a lifting platform, buy own wall anchors and get two mates to help. Replace the net once done.

My teenagers wanted this adjustable basketball net and backboard. They love it. It was pricey but they have had cheaper versions and the plastic has just eventually peeled off. This is huge. No problems with service and the company had it at a very competitive price.
