Mityvac MV7300 Pneumatic 2.3 Gallon Venturi Vacuum Pump Fluid Evacuator, Uses Compressed Air, Chemical-Resistant Polyethylene, Air Shut-Off Valve, Overflow Prevention, Quick-Drain Spout, Large Base

I used this for the first time today. I had to get a air line adapter and then hooked it up to do an oil change. I had the car our for 5 miles, came back and started the job. First the air drag on this item you really need a large air compressor. I don't recall seeing any cfm ratings but I have a 130# 30gal tank which is probably larger than most people. If I had a pancake or cheap compressor I think this item would not do you justice. My compressor was cycling on about every 3 minutes with this thing running with a 100 lb regulator and pressing back up to 100. The air flow to get this drag is considerable so if you have a low CFM rated compressor you will not have good results. I also noted the tube lengths. I have read about he tubes connecting together but I opted to just go up to the big box hardware and you can get 25ft of 1/4" polyethylene tube for under 3 bucks. No sense in adding connections to the line. The connecting of tubes also allows for air leaks so when you consider the best vacuum, the less connections the better. The next thing is the drain plug. It was hard to remove when new. I got it open and used some silicon lube spray to get the o-ring lubed up. Again for good vacuum this o-ring needs to seal the top of the container to get that suction. Now I hooked up my air line, running on a regulator at 100#. It was pulling that oil out of the drain plan with good pull. The weather here was 45-50F and it took me about 45 minutes to pull 4 qts of oil. No mess, very simple to do. I had the drain cap off to prevent vacuum in the engine. I would imagine in the summer weather I'd get a better drain rate but it did the job. Now just have to take the oil to recycle and I'm good to go. Overall I think the product is good and can help with a lot of maintenance on a car or small engine. The length of the tube is really the low point in the design especially when the big box hardware has them for around 3 bucks. I have a few more cars to use it on but it was nice while I was out today, I was able to drain and refill the power steering reservoir in about 2 minutes.... I'm guessing the oil in there was from 10+ years ago. those who had bad luck I would consider the seals of the container, the o-ring at the drain top, the hoses and fittings and do you have the proper air compressor to really run this. The directions are not very telling so it's a learn as you go. I'm guessing that in 3-4 oil changes I'll be ahead having bought this.

I have 3 cars, a jeep, a Volvo and a VW Passat so sometimes it seems like I am running my own little oil change shop. Anything that makes things easier is much appreciated. The Volvo and the VW have belly pans that have to be removed to do a regular drain plug oil change which is a real pain but both also have oil filters accessible from up top. So the MityVac makes oil changes tons easier on these cars. No need to get on the ground at all. If you have a car that fit this description one of the MityVac fluid extractors is must. It takes oil changes and moves them from being a Saturday morning project to something you can just whip off while waiting for dinner to be ready. No ramps, no messing with the belly pan, no changing into something you don't mind laying on the garage floor in, no laying in slush in January, etc. (On the other hand, the Jeep filter change requires getting on the ground anyway and there is no belly pan to remove so while the MityVac does work on the Jeep, I'm going to stick with the Fumoto valve technique there since I'm under the car anyway and the valve plus some tubing puts the oil directly into my disposal container a/k/a empty milk jug. If your car requires getting on your back anyway to change the filter I suggest looking into the Fumoto valve). It takes about 15 minutes to suck 6 qts of oil out. That's probably about the same as it would take to drain but it does result in time savings since you can get started in less than a minute then go gather up what you need to do the filter change and start on the preliminaries while it sucks away. Really, it is the convenience rather than outright time savings that makes this thing worthwhile. Added bonus - my lawn mower and power washer (both of which lack drain plugs) are now going to get more regular oil changes and I'm looking forward to using it to do a power steering fluid change, my next differential fluid change on the jeep and to bleed my brakes (it comes with a bleeder attachment). Well worth the price. At least on my cars, it pulls out as much oil as draining does (note, if you start off a quart or 2 low, it will not magically manufacture oil for you so the test is not how much it sucks out but how much you have to put back in). I have a 26 gallon compressor and it can do a whole change only cycling on once near the end. I use 100 psi. It was actually quite a bit quieter than I thought it would be. There is a plug in the top that pulls out to reveal a nice pour hole with a little spout for pouring the oil into a disposal container. The tubing is just long enough to do my cars which means its not long enough to do a truck without putting the MityVac up on something. But, the tubing is just generic poly tubing and there are no fittings so it should be easy to make longer tubing. I haven't tried it but there is a picture on the box of 2 of the included pieces of tubing connected together and it does look like the largest size might fit into the plug connectors on the ends of the other two pieces. (It is true the instructions are worthless. Don't even bother reading them).

We used the Mityvac for the first time today to change the oil on my son's Mercedes C240. In short, the Mityvac worked extremely well, drawing out 8 quarts of warm oil in about 8-9 minutes [a guess - next time I'll time it]. [Hint: the instructions are not very helpful - it would pay a new user to check a few YouTube videos for this unit] It was also easy to dispense the old oil into empty oil jugs for recycling. The pour spout makes it a lot easier to hit the funnel! The siphon hoses take a little clean up, but nothing compared to using a drain pan and assorted funnels. The real benefit besides the basic functionality was NOT having to put the car on ramps or use a jack. It was also unnecessary to remove the shielding panels underneath to get at the drain plug, because it stays put. [On this car, the oil filter is top-mounted] A lot of effort and time saved. The Mityvac is money well spent.

Used this tool a few times already to service a power transfer unit and rear differential. My vehicle does not have drain plugs for these gear boxes (only fill plugs) and the manufacturer claims the fluid inside is filled for life. There are many documented cases of mechanical failure due to lack of maintenance with this particular set up so i decided to purchase a fluid evacuator to facilitate some sort of maintenance. This one was not the cheapest one available but i figure i have already covered the cost with the number of jobs i have done with it. I do have the luxury of being able to hook up to shop air so i have been quite satisfied with its performance.

Product didn’t work out of the box, have used these products a lot as an auto tech guessing I got a dud. Seller offered to take back not sure at this point if I will get refund or exchange. Would give the seller a 5 start for prompt communication but the product as it didn’t work would hope it’s just a fluke and not all of them
