Hi. I've personally not cut down the grain as it were, but I've cut ply sheeting both ways, 33 & 44mm timber and larger width timber planks. Through all of the above, or belo, or beside, where-ever my messege appears, the saw has been flawless and cut perfectly without ripping the wood. Sorry that doesn't answer you exact question but I hope it helps. I recommend it highly.
