I just bought this lathe. The forward/reverse switch seems reversed. Lathe turns forward when switch is in reverse position, and vice versa.

looking from the tailpiece toward the chuck: forward is counter clockwise reverse is clockwise. Mine seems to turn a little slower in reverse so if yours is wired wrong at the switch you might consider that. I live in Texas and turn mostly mesquite wood and this lathe does a fine job with it.
