🌿 Elevate your aquascape with nature’s volcanic secret!
Fluval Bio-Stratum is a premium, mineral-rich aquarium substrate sourced from Japan’s Mount Aso volcano. Its lightweight, porous granules promote vigorous plant root growth while maintaining ideal neutral to slightly acidic pH levels. Infused with dormant bioactive bacteria, it jumpstarts the nitrogen cycle to rapidly reduce ammonia and stabilize water conditions, making it perfect for planted freshwater aquariums with tropical fish and shrimp. Ideal for both small tanks as a main substrate or as a nutrient-rich top layer in larger setups.

Its brilliant
This was recommended to me by a marine biologist and he was right. It's s bit messy at first and although it tells you to rinse it thats virtually impossible. But once it's in and the dust settles it's frankly amazing. My plants have grown incredibly fast, several inches in a week. The black also looks quite good on the base of the aquarium. so much more realistic than coloured gravel. It's now the only substrate that I will use.

Perfect substrate for aquascaping
A perfect aquarium substrate for any aquascaping. The dark brown offsets the beautiful foliage colours. Having used an alternative (but almost identical) substrate previously, which no longer seems available, this FLUVAL Bio Stratum is exactly what my aquarium plants needed; nutrients and an anchor to put their roots into. Adding new plants into the substrate takes a little practice to get the roots rooted. The previous lot of substrate I used lasted for five years before we needed to replace it all. I have no doubt that with regular care and the odd aqua vacuuming, this substrate we do exactly the same. Very easy to use, excellent value for money.

Worth every penny
it does make the water black but after a few hours it settles down and looks absolutely beautiful. This pack is a bit expensive but you 100% get value for you money. It was perfect for my 30L tank with about 25% left in the packet. Perfect for my plants

Very good overall
Very good overall. Good nutrient density All my plants stated root development (low tech, no CO2 setup) Size of the granules is good - not too big not very small. Appearance /Aesthetically pleasing I used 2 kgs for 54l tank - slightly shallow. Should use 1.5 bags for it to really have carpeting, background and deep rooted plants. 1 minor drawback: it releases so much loose minerals even after 2 washes snd 72hrs of filter running. Finally had to do 2-3 50% water changes. That 1 star was reduced for lack of instruction covering that you need to wash the medium. Warning: don’t introduce fish until alert 15 days of cycling!

A must for any aquarium
So wish I had made the change sooner, after years of using gravel then sand an back to gravel, I decided to bite the bullet an give it a try , WOW opened the bag poured straight into the aquarium an slowly filled with water added some tap safe an I think my baby plec is gonna love its new waters once its cycled an ready , really good value an will be buying more for when i upgrade to a larger tank , it looks very pleasing on the eye , was worried as other customers reviews were very mixed , i found the best way is to just open an dump it in i slowly filled the aquarium pouring into the filter chamber so it didnt disturb now just to sit back an start letting nature take its course, excuse the food bits on the bottom as starting an new cycle while my little guy is growing out , would definitely recommend, an the water looks clear an crisp should of used it sooner

Great caradina substrate
Excellent caradina shrimp substrate. I managed to transfer the entire colony with minimal problems using Fluval Bio Stratum. I'll definitely use it again.

Great for water plants
This has worked great for my water Lillie's. It's a neat product, little balls is the only way I can describe it. The plants seem to like it and the fish don't dig in it as much as they did with the other dirt. Its a bit pricy but worth it.

Fragile particle structure necessitates easy handling
We bought this medium on the author's recommendation, Linsay Sisti, in her book "The Ultimate Guide to Houseplant Propagation". We intended to use this medium to propagate some of our indoor tropical plants. While it is too early to offer definitive results, it is apparent that the propagules are accepting the medium as they root. The brown color of the granules is pleasing, and so far, there is no odor. Three varieties of Chlorophytum are now propagating in Fluval 12697 and are progressing nicely, showing no sign of disease. Please note that Chlorophytum (Spider Plant) is very easy to propagate. We have noted that the new roots are nearly reaching the bottom of the container, while the crowns look very healthy. Nothing propagated requires a pH adjustment, and in several instances, the container medium is one-third filled with water to encourage rooting, as Sisti suggests for using a Fluval stratum.
