This is a very well-engineered product.
I needed to install this pet door into a patio screen door, so this was a two day project for me. I started with a 35" square piece of 1/2" plywood, to which I "dry-fitted" the pet door per the enclosed assembly instructions. Once I saw how it was supposed to come together and confirmed that my cut-out was level and square, I removed the pet door and applied two coats of exterior house paint to each side of the plywood. The next day, I removed the screen and aluminum kickplate from the bottom half of my patio screen door and attached the painted plywood to the inside of the patio door frame (using 8 self-piercing roofing screws with neoprene rubber washers). That done, I completed the job by attaching the pet door to the plywood.I'm an extreme DIYer and a perfectionist, so I'm always pleased to find a product that I have to assemble to be well-engineered. This pet door is certainly one of those, and I'm very happy with the purchase. And BTW, the primary reason I chose this door over two others, is the fact that it can be mounted into a "door" having a thickness as small as 1/16" (which I thought was a mistake on the Amazon product page; I had to get verification that it wasn't a typo). The other two pet doors I was considering wouldn't work with a piece of plywood as thin as 1/2". It turns out that many doors on the market will not, so that was a limiting factor for me.I only have one minor complaint, and it concerns the installation instructions. Although they were succinct (to say the least), they were also clear. But, they were missing one important piece of information: the back (outside) half of the pet door frame must be oriented a certain way (because the top two corners are right-angled while the bottom two corners are arched). Think of it as assembling a sandwich with two pieces of white bread, and when you get done, you turn the sandwich over and discover that the bottom slice of bread is upside-down compared to the top piece. This frame WILL screw together like that - with the back upside down - and you won't notice the problem until after you've assembled it. I know that to be true because I did it. After putting the frame together, I went out to check the other side of the door, and was dismayed to find the frame was bulging in several places. I had to take the assembly back apart, re-orient the back half of the frame correctly and screw everything together again.Note to manufacturer: You should either change the placement of some of the screw posts so they won't align unless both pieces of the frame are properly oriented, or (the easier solution) place an indicator on the inside of the rear frame half and annotate your assembly instructions accordingly. At bottom: I really like this frame and I'm happy to recommend it. (We'll see how many summers it'll withstand on the west side of my Florida home.)

Love this!
One of the smartest purchases made for my fur babies! Works great for big dogs (my husky is 65 lbs) and little dogs (my mini dachshund is 11 lbs)! Looks nice and was fairly easy to install. Would recommend!

Poor design for any place that has and wind or breeze
I was disappointed and sent it back the same day it arrived. I live in West Texas where the wind can blow and we experience all 4 seasons. I thought this could handle some basic weather elements, I know it can’t handle everything, but the tiny magnet that holds the door closed wouldn’t be able to keep it closed in a light breeze. I could push the door open, breaking the magnetic connection with my pinky finger using pound or so of force. The wind would hold this door open continuously. I might as well just cut an open hole in the door and save money. I sent it back and ordered another brand that I hope will be made well enough to be used on an exterior door.
