I was skeptical at first, but after finding ants that were big enough (the first batch escaped in the night to never be seen again) I woke up to a series of beautiful tunnels etched into the gel! The ants worked furiously for several days but after a while they started slowing down and became very depressed. I tried rewarding their hard work with a skittle once or twice but they showed no interest in it and it absorbed into the gel. As time went on a few of them fell by the wayside and the ants buried their corpses in gel. That part was very interesting to see. Eventually more and more died until their was just one left and even though he was surrounded by death, he could still be seen working his little ant heart out til his last breath.

We had an ant farm before and really enjoyed it, so I thought I'd upgrade to this one with a light. Sadly the ants we ordered through the company died very quickly. About 1/2 died immediately and the other ants piled their carcasses up in the corner, then the others died off one by one. They barely tunneled at all after the first week. Really disappointed. UPDATE: I contacted the company about replacing the ants and they explained that a new colony would likely reject this farm if they could still smell the dead ants in it, so they sent me a completely NEW ant farm so we could start fresh! It's not here yet so I can't speak to the full experience yet but bumped them up to 5 stars due to amazing customer service.

I am very satisfied with this product my kids like it a lot I ordered it for them just for something different to learn on how ants in other creatures can live they enjoy seeing it every morning and the different tunnels they're making it's just a really neat project to do with your children when I first ordered the cord was missing for the light I contacted the company they immediately sent me a cord for it and I also had an issue when I ordered my Ants they sent me the directions for the sand Ant Farm which stated to feed them so the ants started dying off so I contacted the company and that's when I found out they sent me the wrong directions with the ants and they immediately replace the ant farm so my children could experience them like they're supposed to in the correct way overall I'm very satisfied with the product and how quickly the company got back to me with my issues I would highly recommend getting this for your children or for your grandchildren or is it gift it's really neat and the light is a cool add on when they start digging there tunnels it aluminates them.

I don't know if it was the ants that we ordered, or the gel ant farm that I bought only a couple of weeks before, but... it was horrible. The ants just walked around confused until one-by-one they died. They never seemed to understand that they could eat the gel, they dragged their dead family members to the corner, they started digging a little, but all died in a couple of weeks. It was terribly disappointing and depressing.

Got a Ant farm to see if they would dig holes in the gel and these ants did nothing!! I followed the instructions thoroughly and still they just walked around and did nothing😡 The only cool thing about these ants were the ones that died, the alive ants would carry the dead ants to the corner. So sad that these ants died and did nothing😔😭🤧

This is our second gel ant farm and while we loved our first one, this time we're highly disappointed. It arrived and looked as expected. When our ants arrived they were fine and thrived for the first few days but suddenly stopped tunneling. I contacted the ant supplier, and was told these gel farms can get old, expire, go out-of-date, whatever you want to call it. So our poor ants are just sitting in the corner of the habitat in a big "ant pile" doing nothing.

This set up is pretty cool. I am using it in my Pre-K class and they are completely fascinated with it. We use the magnifying glass to see the ants during our circle time (and they can use it throughout the day). My own children like coming into my class in the morning before school and checking them out. I may get one for them for our home too. Definitely recommend!

The ant farm came in and and one of the lights were broken. After a week or so, all the ants had died because the gell melted and collapsed all of the tunnels. Was really excited about this but disappointed in the outcome.
