Exile: Legend of Drizzt: Dark Elf Trilogy, Book 2

The legend grows
A tale of exile and isolation turns into a tale of unexpected friendship and the strength that friendship can give, even when faced with ultimate betrayal from one's own family.House Do'Urden is in fine form again as an example of true wickedness and spite and yet our hero Drizzt stoically rises above it all to find his own path. It is essentially the story of a boy leaving home and forging his own path but with many more dangers than one might ordinarily face and told expertly in page-turning prose from R. A. Salvatore. If you enjoyed the first book, then this is a no-brainer. I will start the third book in what is rapidly becoming one of my favourite series, from one of my now favourite authors later today and I can't wait to start.Highly recommended.

The continuing adventures
This book picks up from Homeland. Drizzt is living alone in the underdark and going a little crazy whilst his mother schemes to sacrifice him to the spider queen. This book continues to develop the character of Drizzt and adds a couple if new characters in the form of a gnome and a hook horror who is not all he seems.Ideally I could have done with more scenes back in the dark elf city as the rival houses scheme to take advantage of the chaos caused by Drizzt departure but that's a minor quibble. If you liked Homeland, you'll enjoy this book too.

The Adventure Continues
In the sequel, the plot unfolds three decades later, revealing Drizzt's solitary existence in the wild, consumed by violence and devoid of companionship, grappling with profound loneliness. The relentless pursuit of Drizzt by his own family intensifies, creating a gripping narrative that delves into the complexities of his character.Zak's resurrection adds a captivating layer, portraying him as a cold and ruthless killing machine in his unyielding quest for Drizzt. Despite the grim circumstances, Zak's return becomes a highlight, and the hope for his self-discovery resonates strongly. The exploration of Deep Gnomes and their habitat brings a heartwarming dimension to the story, as Drizzt's friendship with them develops over time. The unbreakable bond shared with Belwar the Deep Gnome serves as a beacon of hope amidst Drizzt's inner turmoil, providing a counterbalance to his relentless hunting instincts. The narrative excels in world-building, particularly in depicting the Deep Gnome home and the Underdark with atmospheric richness. The intricate details immerse readers, making it easy to lose oneself in the story's imaginative depth. The author skilfully weaves a tale that keeps readers engaged, with a satisfying conclusion that leaves anticipation for the next instalment. While the exploration of the Deep Gnomes and Drizzt's journey captivates, some sections involving female Drow making repetitive grand statements may feel tedious. Nevertheless, the overall storytelling, combined with exceptional world-building, makes for a compelling read.

Exile
This book is great for anyone who has read homeland. It introduces Drizzt to a much wider world that allows for a more complex story, developing characters personality and relationships.Whilst the main plot is quite obvious at points this does not take away from the story as a whole, and a few twists just add to the intrigue. It was good to continue following the story of the rest of house do'urden as well as Drizzt. To see what becomes of them and their place within crow society.

Brilliant
The first book was really good at setting the scene of Drizzt's childhood, training and formative years. Showing well how this led to his disgust, disillusionment and desertion of all His heritage. However this second book ramped up the action, varied emotions and character depth, more characters, more creatures and more scenes. In short Drizzt and his life settings grew and grew: I for one can't wait to see how far the expansion goes now the roof lifted and the stars are the limit !

Very good.
I enjoyed this book, not quite as much as the first however. It didn't always seem to know where it was going and the plot wandered at times. That said, the book was enjoyable and moved on somewhat from the first. If you enjoyed the last one you will like this. The standard of writing is good, the characters are believable and world is interesting.I would give this book 5.5/10.

Genius storytelling!
I can’t put these books down, so immersive that I was in the under dark with Drizzt and his companions. Can’t wait for the next one.

An enormously entertaining read!
Drizzt’s journey is a breathless thoroughly engaging tale, impeccably told. R A Salvatore weaves his own magic spells bringing us along with Drizzt and some new found friends. I loved this book!

Excellent!
The story continues the adventures of Drizzt. The plot focuses on survival. Unless Matron Malice can ensure Drizzt’s death, her entire family will cease to exist. In this story, we have less world building and more focus on the themes of friendship, sacrifice and commitment.I enjoyed the journey, the friendships made, the descriptions of the battles and felt sadness at both deaths. We end the story with Drizzt leaving and entering the surface world.

Key forgotten realms lore
One of the greatest adventures inspiring Larian Baldurs Gate video game series.First and Second Drizzt novel form the gist of it. Pure fantasy gold.Strange setting although somewhat predictable plot parts to this point of intro.

Another solid entry in the Drizzt saga
This book is a bit different than the first book. The main difference is the character development that is evident in Drizzt. We no longer have the young drow who has had found a way out of Matron Malice's clutches. We have a a drow who is struggling with loneliness and possibly an alter-ego of Hunter. We also get to see some good characters in Belgar and Clacker. We see the bonds that they make with Drizzt and how this bond both saves and shapes him. This book, by no means, is low on action. We still find a lot of action in Menzoberranzan with House DoUrden in dire straits. The way the action enfolds with scenes between Dinin and Briza, we get to see the power that Drizzt has achieved through the perspective of other characters. The book ends with a new avdventure laid out for Drizzt and I am looking forward to it.
