Just buy it
Not sure how there are so many negative reviews. I have an aftermarket Planet Audio stereo and it works flawlessly. Took less than a minute to initially set up and auto connects in about 20 seconds each time I start up the car. There is a lag when changing songs and during videos, but it is worth it to not have to deal with plugging in every time. No noticeable difference in audio quality. Longest I have driven is one hour but it never once disconnected. Worth it.

Doesn't do well in heat....
I bought this for myself, and got it yesterday. It does well when I first start using it, or when it's early in the day (hasn't gotten hot yet). In the afternoons, it works well for about ten minutes, then starts seriously lagging. Audio cuts in and out, Google Maps gets delayed by minutes, and the touch screen is slow to respond. I started a return with Amazon after just 1 day, and I'm ordering a different model.

UPDATE WITH INSTRUCTIONS THAT WORKED FOR ME: Living 20 seconds behind.
UPDATE 10/3: Still working well. In the past 2 months, I maybe had to unplug the unit one time due to it freezing up. Other than that, it connects with no issues. The only thing I noticed is that the GPS relies on your cell phone signal, so if you keep your phone in your pocket, then the signal may not be as strong and may cause a slight delay on your navigation directions. Once I take my phone out of my pocket and place in my dash mount/charger, all is good to go.UPDATE 7/29: Just wanted to provide a quick update after running this mini for last about 2 weeks. It's been running great. No lag and no reboots after taking a 2.5 hour drive with Google Maps and Spotify running at the same time. Boots up quickly and reliably every time and works on all the shorter trips. I will provide any updates as necessary.UPDATE 7/17: After I had returned my 1st unit from my bad experience, a rep from CarLinkit contacted me with updated instructions. I went ahead and followed the instructions posted in "robaroo's" review and CarLinkit's follow-on instructions. Here is what I did step-by-step, so hopefully, this works for you:1. Robaroo's instructions: a. Plug it into your car's USB port which you use with wired CarPlay. b. DO NOT CONNECT TO BLUETOOTH LIKE THE WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS SAY. c. Wait approximately 30 seconds, then on your phone connect to the WIFI transmission labeled "VOLKSWAGN" or something named similar to your car (mine was "AUDI-XXXX"). d. The password to join is 12345678. e. After you've connected to it via WIFI (once it connects, it will say it is "Low-Data Connection"), browse to IP address 192.168.50.2, which takes you to the configuration page for your Carlinkit. On that page, it'll say that your Carlinkit is up to date, but it isn't. Click the "Check for update" button, and then you'll see that there's a newer version available. Install the update and wait for the page to tell you it's done updating. At this point, you may lose the WIFI connection. After you've re-established WIFI connection, browse to IP address 192.168.50.2 again. Again, it'll tell you that your Carlinkit is up to date, but it probably isn't. Click the "Check for update" button, and then you'll see that there's a newer version available AGAIN. Install the update and wait for the page to tell you it's done updating. Repeat the cycle of update, refresh page, update, refresh page, until it tells you that there's no more updates when you click "Check for updates." When you reach that point you are almost ready to rock. f. When you plug in your Carlinkit to your car's USB port that you use for CarPlay, you will see a different screen that gives you directions to connect your iPhone. Now finally the Carlinkit transmits a bluetooth signal that you can pair with. Go ahead and pair it, and on your phone it'll ask you to confirm if you want to pair it. For some reason, after it's paired via Bluetooth, it'll unpair itself and then continue to use the WiFi connection - you can check on your phone that the WIFI is connected to the CarLinkit.2. CarLinkit's instructions: Almost there. Even after updating and connecting as described above, I was still noticing lag in my Google maps navigation, input into my Audi's MMI and it would freeze and reboot every 5 minutes. So I followed the following steps from Carlinkit. a. After connecting your phone to CarLinkit, browse to IP address 192.168.50.2 again. b. At the bottom, pick the "Advanced" tab and make the following changes one at a time. The CarLinkit may have to reboot after each change, so let it reboot and your phone will connect automatically after updating each setting (please see screenshot from my iPhone). i. FPS setting. Set this to 24 ii. Toggle GPS to "OFF"After I did this, the lag and freezing up issues went away. That's it!I am revising my review to 4 out of 5 stars for now. Docking 1 star due to the crap instructions.I will use for the next week or two and see if it stands the test of time. If anything craps out, then I will update accordingly. Good luck.ORIGINAL REVIEWI had no issues connecting this to my 2019 Audi and updating the firmware, and it seemed to work fine at first. However, after using with Google maps navigation for a few minutes, the navigation would lag around 20 seconds behind. In addition, my MMI controls would become unresponsive or lag. After around 20 minutes of lagging, the unit would freeze causing my MMI screen to go blank until the unit booted back up. Unacceptable. I even tried to connect to my 2017 Volvo, and the same thing happened. I returned it. I cannot recommend this unit at all. I am back to using CarPlay with wire. Very disappointed.

This is what CarPlay should have been from the start!
I am using this for a 2017 Chevy Volt and the model I bought is the white CarlinKit Mini 3.0. I really like using CarPlay versus the poorly designed UI from GM, but it drives me crazy to dig my iPhone out and plug it in every time I get in the car. Even worse, I sometimes forget to take it with me when I get where I'm going and have to go back out to my car to get it. The idea of having wireless CarPlay that starts automatically every time I get in the car, while my iPhone stays in my pocket, completely changes the whole feel of CarPlay. Here's my experience having only used it for a few days, in and out of the car about a dozen times. The setup was just as easy as it said in the instructions. I was expecting a setup ordeal based on some of the reviews, but that never materialized. I did connect to the wi-fi, go into the settings and check for updates. This one said it was up to date, though, so then I just connected the bluetooth (i.e. followed the instructions), waited several seconds and hit the CarPlay icon on my car's touchscreen. CarPlay came up and worked just fine. I'm thinking some of the older models of this device may have needed updates to work correctly, but this 2022 version is already up to date, at least at the time I received mine. Anyway, there was no difficulty with installation.Another thing I saw mention of was mixed results on how long it took for the device to startup and get CarPlay connected. Whenever I start the car, it takes about 10-15 seconds for the whole thing to get going, which isn't bad since it always took me that long to dig out my phone, plug it in and get it connected using the wire. At first, the car screen says there is no USB device, then a screen from the CarlinKit comes up for 2-3 seconds and then CarPlay is running. No fuss and it's all automatic, just as it should be. If I turned off the car with the song playing, then it starts up playing again. If I hit pause before turning off the car, then it starts paused. If I use Apple Music on my iPhone while not in the car, CarPlay picks up with whatever my phone was doing last (as it does when using wired CarPlay). Some people mentioned connectivity as an issue for them. It is not for me. The device is sitting in a tray forward of the gear shift where the USB plugs in and my phone is in my left pocket. The connection seems rock solid. So, overall, it's looking good. I obviously can't speak to longevity, so I hope it lasts, but given that I didn't even know this product existed until the day before yesterday, I'm very pleased. This is what CarPlay should have been all along.

Superb…👍
This is best product to make your wired car play into wireless 🛜 instant, and it’s only for iPhone users. But the problem is, the battery of iPhone drains very fast weather u r using it or not if ur device is connected, so use this only when u wanna use maps otherwise use Bluetooth for music or u can use wire to charge ur device continuously or use wired CarPlay.
