Good Grits
I like a hearty dish of grits. I typically cook as instructed, and then stir in some cheddar cheese before serving. I like these grits.Quality is as good as any grits I’ve ever had. I like that there is a desiccant to keep my grits dry, but I can picture someone not noticing, so be aware.

Decent basic grits
Grits are a southern staple and I like the savory version for breakfast on occasion. They can also be used as a base for other dishes (the most well known is Shrimp and Grits), but there are many other uses as well. They are basically a milled corn product and are the same as Polenta or Corn Meal – the only difference being how fine the corn is ground. Like many agricultural products, some people swear that a particular region grows “the best” version of it, or that the big commercial producers are inferior to the smaller, artisan, versions. When it comes to grits, this was my opportunity to test these claims as this is a three-bag bundle that comes from one such artisan grower. Each bag contains two pounds of grits. One bag contains white grits; another yellow; and the third a mix of white and yellow. As you can see from the attached pictures, the bags are kind of cute and the grits themselves are packaged in sealed plastic bags inside the exterior bag. The exterior bags have printed recipes for plain grits and shrimp and grits and all of them have the same recipes. One odd thing is that there is a desiccant (demoisturizing) sachet inside the plastic bag. Find it and remove it before you pour your grits into a pan with water. Just saying… 😊For purposes of this review, I made the standard grits the way the recipe on the package said, and then added grated cheddar cheese to it for a satisfying breakfast. I also used the grits in a cracker I was making. There is a picture of the crackers attached to this review. The instructions say that the grits should be ready in about 25 to 30 minutes. It took almost 35 minutes in my kitchen and even then, they were a bit too runny for me. After they hardened a bit, they were better. In the crackers, the grits offered the perfect bite with the desired grittiness to complement the parmesan cheese and black pepper I also used.In other words, the product is good. Is it better than what you could buy in your local supermarket from one of the giant mass-producers? I could not really detect much of a difference. Quaker sells grits for 13 cents an ounce and these sell for 43 cents an ounce. More than three times as much. Since I could not detect a difference, it is not worth it for me. If you have more refined taste buds than I, it may be worth it for you.
