I do not use a comb to detangle, finding the paddle brush kinder to my hair. I brush thru while conditioning. I use a leave-in conditioner, natural styling anad that's it. Even when applying heat the same routine. Do not use the product if you have any doubts. There is no need. **Q: can this undread locked, matted hair?** A: I'm not sure. From what I've seen in my hair, its mostly for tangled, curly hair. For locked or matted hair, that may have to be cut. I don't think any detangler can help locked or matted hair. Please try Avocado Oil or Grapeseed Oil for locked hair. It works great for my hair type, which is 3C/4A and it works equally well on 4B hair, which my daughter has. I will soon be trying it out on my other daughter's hair. She has 4C hair. I use it as a leave in, after I deep condition my hair. Then I roller set my hair. When I'm sectioning my hair for each individual roller, I use a little more for any section that still has a few tangles. Then I use a setting foam and roll up my hair. I am able to easily comb through my hair with this product, so I can get my hair done (and my daughter's) much more quickly without frustration. My hair dries nice and soft.
