Finishing Wood

Well, I've had this eagerly awaited book for a few days now and I must say it's everything I'd wished for. As soon as I heard it was from the 'Fine Woodworking' team I knew it would be a first class production. I was also aware that being an American publication that I would need to make some allowances as I'm more used to working with finishing products available on the British market. This book explains the principles of preparing the wood surface and the characteristics and application of the types of finishes available rather than concentrating on various brands. This makes the book highly relevant to readers regardless of geographic location - which is in itself a tremendous achievement.I really enjoy the style and character that the various authors of the different chapters bring to the publication. The photographs are first class and if you enjoy immersing yourself in technical books which are well supported with visual elements to confirm and example the written word then this book will not disappoint.This publication is highly informative and I honestly believe it will appeal to a wide range of woodworkers regardless of skill level. Having worked with wood myself for several decades the art of wood finishing evolves as new products become available and if you are keen to understand the latest finishes available and how to use them them then this new publication should pretty much enable you to keep right up to date.I'm sure this publication will retain a prominent place on my bookcase for some time to come and I'll certainly enjoy using it as a reference as my abilities and techniques progress.
