We were having electric fence troubles due to a lightning strike, and were unable to get reliable continuity readings from the old reliable neon test lights. Not only was the smart check reliable and easy to read, we also were able to determine fence voltage AND get no-contact readings as we drove along the fence. This was a problem solver!It is very well made, with a machined & anodized base, and comes with instructions as well as a fitted cloth storage sleeve. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed.

I SO been waiting & wondering when somebody would come up with a fully self-contained tester. No grounding wire to fiddle with, wrap up, get tanged, break, have to solder repair! Instantly know theres juice on the line within inches & not even be contacting the fence. Even works on the stainless woven plastic string. Just ride along on atv, holding tester within a few inches, letting the beeper tell where failure is at.This item is Totally worth the price, & a Huge time saver. Thumbs Up Awesome.Update;So, it's been roughly a year & 1/2 that I got my 1st one of these units. It has made managing several miles of 6 & 7 wire elk deterrent fence far easier then packing around the old ground wire type tester. Only issue is recently the unit has developed a mind it's own, as to whether it'll work or not. Sometimes I have to tap it fairly hard on 4-whlr handle or post to get it to come on. So, it might be starting to have some sort of problem. So I've ordered another to take over. I noted in past reviews, somebody else seemed to have a similar issue. Beings mine is 6 months past warranty, I ain't complaining, it's been a very useful item. And I'm pleasantly surprised to find it now $10., cheaper now. Total thumbs up!I'll also add, that it fell out of vest pocket last spring, dropped into a foot of water, while I was rescuing a baby calf from the creek. Had to wait overnight for tide to go out, found it, open it to dry out, but no need, no moisture inside, worked just fine. So, It's waterproof!

The best available. Don't buy the cheap ones. This is accurate, easy to read. However, 18 months of infrequent use and it is no longer working. That having been said, I'll buy another to replace it.

Disclaimer to the video that I included of the tester in action, it appears that the tester in the video is flickering and or hard to view the reading, which is not the case in person and only shown up on the recording with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Thoroughly pleased with the tester. Beyond simple to use and extremely accurate and reliable from the very first use to now a few months later as I work on a few hundred acres of farmland with the majority to almost all utilizing electric fencing for cattle. With about a third of which being regularly moved poly wire for daily rotating pastures as well as the rest of the property lines and fields being standard fencing wire electric fencing at around 8-10k volts and been experiencing a significant drop in voltage so I purchased the tester to hopefully be able to freely, quickly and easily find the location/reason with the tester and was without a doubt easily able to with the tester. I was skeptical at first with the lack of needing to be grounded and the low price at 35 bucks let alone below 50. Absolutely worth it in my book and I’ve used it literally daily for months now and never once had any issue, doubt in the accuracy or even had the batteries need replaced or low yet. Worth every penny and the time spent to write this book of a review to give credit where due.

I just received this and really hope I do not experience what others have with it breaking within a year. With that said, if it does break, I will get another.I had been having issues with my fence where it was weak at the furthest point away from the box. I tried tracking down where the degradation was with other fence testers and just could never track down the problem. I even tried replacing the box thinking that maybe the box just wasn't strong enough. This thing came in and in less than 10 minutes I tracked down the different points on each line that was causing the loss in power and had the fence repaired in record time. For the amount of time this device will save me in tracking down problem areas on a fence, I will gladly buy a new one every year if I have to.The readout is super bright and can easily be read in middle of a bright sunny day.The fact that it gives you an actual readout of the power on the fence instead of a light coming on or not makes it easy to track where voltage drops are.The clear casing is not glass, it is a polymer which means that it is very durable and will not break easily like some fear.Because you do not have to actually touch the fence (Best reading is if you are touching or within an inch) to get a reading, it is much easier than the other "grounded" fence testers to get readings from your fence.When you want to test multiple locations, you do not have to constantly move a ground point so you can get a reading in a different location.

You can check the strength of the fence in all of the various parts of the field. Great machine.

I have the cheap neon tube style tester but it does not tell you good info. If you have an electric fence and want to have the peace of mind that you can check the functionality this is the perfect tester. Our fence is a blend of new and very old surrounding the property and this tester gives me the information I need to track down issues and knowing the exact output voltage is much more important than I thought. It is easily read in bright daylight and I finally have been able to pinpoint a couple of areas that were giving us problems and get them fixed.
