Funk Guitar: The Essential Guide (Private Lessons)

This is a REALLY good book. Ross Bolton was a top professional funk guitarist. He's was the house guitarist in loads of American TV programs, so he know what he's doing! This book takes a complex subject and manages to make it really clear and accessible. I would not hesitate in recommending this book to somebody keen to learn funky rhythm guitar. It's easily the best book available. Another big plus of this book, is that it explains REAL, usable funk guitar parts in a transparent way. Also all the audio recordings are very clear and helpful. The TAB and notation is all 100% accurate. In short, if you're a student of funk guitar BUY THIS BOOK NOW!!!

THE 1ST FUNK BOOK TO GET if ya wanna play FUNKrhythm,,,for sure. 2 hi there,,, this book will teach you funk rhythm and beside that the more you move on you will even learn how to read funk rhythm noted ''i mean the motion up n' down stroke'' and lots of funk chords,,,you get to know the value of this book and ROSS BOLTON TEACHIN' WHICH IS THE SIMPLEST EVER as you go by. IF you're a begginer/intermediate and maybe advance in other styles,,,that's the one to get FIRST...then to complement I would recommend '' ...by peter gelling as 2nd,,,chris hunt,,,the funkmasters(great book),dave rubin,, and even TOM KOLB rhythm progressions which has lots of styles including funk n' r'nb,,,,Guitar Play-Along Volume 52: Funk (Hal Leonard Guitar Play-Along) this book has the entire songs with tab plus CD ,, ,,,so in other words all the rest will complemet you ross funk rhythm book. so keep funk alive.

Not for me.

I've been playing 25 years and have recently got into playing funk. I purchased this book plus others including Funk/R&BGuitar Thaddeus Hogarth, New Orleans Funk Guitar Shane Theriot, Funkmasters Allan Slutsky/Chuck Silverman and Funk play along Hal Leonard. I've still to work my way through all of these but I would say that Funk Guitar by Ross Bolton would be a great first purchase as it's nicely laid out and easy to follow. Very often I think books can be overwhelming with the amount of material and really act more like reference books but Bolton's book is very achievable and realistic. This book took me about a day to go through BUT I've been playing a while and still found it very useful. I would say it's a good beginners/intermediates book but of course if you've never got into funk then irrespective of how long you've been playing this would still be a good starting point. Of the others I purchased, my initial thoughts in order of favourtism are 1)Thaddeus Hogarth 2)Shane Theriot then Funkmasters and lastly Play along Hal Leonard Hope this helps!! Not a very good book at all the play along example s are too short , and they Is no list of tracks on cd or the book complete waste of time and money do not buy this

昔からギター弾いている人間にとって目からうろこのような記述があるわけじゃないが、そうやったなぁと、思わず思い出してしまう懐かしさのある本。しちむずかしい理論も全くなく、初心者には最適かも。中級者には若干物足りないかも知れないが、最後までやれば少しは腕も上がるだろいう。付属のCDは通常のテンポの後少しゆっくりしたテンポで演奏が入っている。

Da anni chi vuole affrontare in maniera serie le ritmiche funk (che hanno ormai contaminato pop, rock, metal etc.) deve passare per questo libro. Il compianto Ross Bolton ha messo insieme tutti gli esercizi che servono per padroneggiare questo tipo di ritmiche.

If you've never played Funk guitar, you will when you're done with this book! I have to disagree when anyone that says this book is not for beginners. The chords and rhythm grooves on the CD are exactly what beginners need to stay interested in chords, chord progressions and structure. It will also please the ears of parents and other nearby listeners. There is more to the fretboard than shredding you know. Once you start getting the basics of this book underway, I strongly suggest listening to some James Brown, Tower of Power, Funkadelic (the sixties stuff), Rick James, Prince (the beginnings) and The Meters (Cissy Strut). There is some very good stuff in this book!

A nice introduction step by step to build your funk rhythm. I recommend this book over the other book "Playking funky rhythm guitar" which I own as well. The exercises really build your right hand to play funky rhythms.
