For your Information....
Originally I gave this gadget 3* as some user and software compatibility issues needed resolving. All sorted and I am happy to upgrade to 5* review, although some reservations. My fortnight on the ski-slopes will be the true test!...Update, Feb 2017: I went to the ski-slopes with 3 different ideas to attach this camera to my helmet, NONE were sufficiently stable enough in use, so I gave up trying. Therefore no further comment about any actual performance of this camera. I am not a gadget geek and as this is my first sports camera, no technical comment or comparisons either. There are a number of different cameras in this style, some at silly prices; this XM by ABTO is certainly the best quality I’ve found. Everything from presentation to build quality indicates an excellent product. Being Chinese in origin the user instructions suffer in translation, but are better than many. I recommend taking time out to really familiarise and understand. One outstanding point is the (claimed) battery life that should allow for a full day’s activity without power problems. Few if any other sports-cams can match this, my trail results are good so far.As this is the latest technology, compatibility with older software and devices might be an issue, this was my original problem. (See later)The manufacturer has been obliging and helpful; they are in China of course so allow for a delay in exchanges due to the time difference. My contact’s command of English was good.About the camera. No Charger is supplied, easily overcome using a standard micro-usb smart-phone charger or similar. **It is not a Bluetooth device** WiFi connection to a tablet/smart-phone or similar allows access to the firmware which does need the recommended Home7 App. Connecting via USB cable allows file handling to data storage and video viewing, as any normal memory storage device, but no camera functions. In WiFi mode via the App, Battery life and Memory (Hard Disc) capacities are shown. As in all gadgets, claimed memory capacity is less in reality! This 32gb is actually 29.9gb available. 1st screen also gives live feed/monitor for positional set-up, with assorted picture taking choices, eg Time Lapse or Timer, lighting conditions, pixel rate adjustment. In the tool box you can access/adjust all sorts of configuration settings and functions for the expert user. Plus simple stuff like Time and Date, turn off the microphone (which is good in quiet surroundings, pointless above 5mph outside!) Review the “Hard Disc” to format/erase all. Enable the remote control function or set up/activate, a Password function. For me the best facility allows write/re-write of a small on-screen “label” to identify each video, eg: location or subject title. The time and date are embedded.Start up and control response times are as good as claimed, Quality and definition of recordings is surprisingly good right across the wide-angle perspective, colours and detail very true to life, but remember this is a gadget, it is not a professional video camera! It has limitations! As with any camera, if your subject (or you!) is moving faster than it can record the image, the picture will be blurred. eg: cars moving in the opposite direction so a high closing speed, this camera won’t capture the number-plate detail. In low-light conditions, reproduction is good and the camera adjusts well, but being a gadget, moving images will be blurred. Vibration has a very big impact on picture quality as well, so consider your mounting. The manufactures provide their own version of a Cycle Mount or Vented-Helmet strap-on mount, but nothing for solid helmets. This camera has the normal/universal threaded camera mount and the world is full of photography and sports-cam accessories to help in any situation and mount it almost anywhere onto anything! Except CLOSE to the SIDE of a solid helmet. I find the “Go-Pro” style of a 6inch pylon stuck out from the side of your head an incredibly dangerous idea in any sport!I have yet to try out the remote control function and more importantly, how well everything works and can be controlled in actual sports action use (especially when wearing Ski-Mitts) and where recordings are more than 20 minutes long, eg: the rigors of sliding down snowy mountains! ...And thereafter moving my video’s to HDD storage for later viewing. My original 3* review of this camera was because of compatible software issues with the Home7 App and playback of recordings, plus the need to adjust the firmware of the camera to UK use first. I am not a technophobe or a gadget nut and still extremely happy using WinXP and the full Office Suite, which was the problem. I am out of date for this modern camera!I used to run VLC Media Player on my XP Laptop that had both H264 and H265 codecs so happily ran Apple I-Tune videos and other modern video downloads, but it still wouldn’t run this camera’s files.Research led me to a freeware Media Player Codec Pack which gave me Media Player Classic Home Cinema which works brilliantly for this camera and reproduction quality is stunning! .. Plus it has a/ skip back or forwards, b/ fast back or forwards, c/ Step forward, facilities. The Home7 app is available from different locations but installation issues with my 9 month old HTC smartphone. I was forced to finally register with Google just to get the Home7 App. Older PC, notebooks and tablet type softwares do not support the H264 and H265 mpeg4 video codecs used by this camera, which is now the global standard. I don’t know about older Mac compatibility, I guess it will be the same problem if it is an issue. I also gather that in odd cases, some types and generations of tablet processors won’t handle the data either and there’s no way around that.Final Thought... viewing on your tablet should be no problem, but rather than use a box full of little memory cards to save everything to, is it OTG Enabled? OTG allows the direct operation to/from external devices, like an HDD drive.

Excellent camera but not quite for cyclists
First impressions out of the box. Quality and stylish.Fitted the mount to the push bike handle bars. Ordered a couple of other mounts for car dashboard and cycle helmet.Connected to wifi fine and adjusted settings but no viewing of photos or videos possible.Connected to PC and found viewing files fine. The remote is a nice touch. Paired it okay after a few minutes searching. It's Chinese translation to English and usual vague instructions sound it does take a bit of time.So far really pleased with this camera.I hope to use daily with my push bike and will update review in a couple of weeks.I chose this camera over contour roam 2 and sena prism tube. Abto on paper seems equal in parts and better in other areas to these two competitors.Update. I have returned the item and bought cycliq fly light / camera combined specifically designed for cyclists.
