Venice Walks (On Foot Guides)

This should be essential for first time visitors to Venice!!
This book definitely helped make our four day trip to Venice better. We actually only used one of the walks exactly, but used two others to help us plan two other wanderings. We would recommend using this with a free map which you can get from tourist info, lettings agencies etc. To really enhance your visit we would also recommend going on a free walking tour on your first morning after arrival, so you can get some good info, which will help when exploring other areas of Venice as the holiday continues.

An excellent book. We did 6 of the 10 walks ...
An excellent book. We did 6 of the 10 walks over a 2 day period and saw some unusual places.it took us away from the crowds into the lesser known areas such as the Jewish quarter, the gondola workshop and the gardens. It often mentioned little places to eat or drink which are now closed down so an update would be good. Still excellent value for money.

Brilliant book!
A fabulous book! The walks took us down alleys and lanes that we would never have used and as a result, we saw parts of Venice we would never have known existed. Husband and I did 10 out of twelve walks so we have an excuse to return.

100% Completely recomend
As complete Venice novices we found the information and walks covered in this book to be invaluable and cannot recommend it highly enough. I feel that it really helped put into perspective the different areas and how they tie together - we now know which area we will stay next time and are planning that trip already. The aerial views of the walks are really useful and directions are clear and easy to follow.Excellent.

Dreadful waste of money.
I took this with me to Venice. I'm very accustomed to making my way on foot around cities. This guide was impenetrable, impossible to follow and lacked any useful insights. I couldn't even work out where we were. You're better of simply walking the city and dipping your head into anywhere that looks interesting. I found far more that way.

This is a new, but the same, edition of a wonderful book.If you own it already, you don't have to buy it again.Only if your copy is ruined with use.Pax tibi, F.

Highly recommended.
Several interesting walks, covering places (mostly!) away from the tourist traps. Clear and concise and well-illustrated - will be lovely to follow these on our next trip. Highly recommended.

An essential purchase for your trip to Venice
Were it not for this book, and its wonderful walks, I think we could very well have come away from Venice hating the place. Instead we had a fabulous time, and saw lots of Venice very cheaply (which is no mean feat in a place seemingly designed to part you from your money). The walks were interesting and took us to some quiet, charming spots. The maps were good although occasionally had to be supplemented with that from the guide book. The directions were also mostly clear to follow, and there was lots of background information about each place on the walk. We learned so much about Venice and its history from the walks. We found it took around 3-4 hours to do each walk, but we weren’t rushing and stopped regularly for drinks and to gather our bearings. We enjoyed these walks much more than any of the big tourist attractions.
