All Around Man - Live In London

I will only chime in with the rest of Rory Gallagher fans and say that this man was as good as it comes and his music will hold up for eternity. I wish I would've seen him live.This double CD set was mixed correctly at Abbey Roads Studio, the sound is excellent. There isn't a bad track in the lists, and really gives the listener a front row seat to some awesome concerts.

Another great live show from Rory!!! Several songs shift tempo to offer a fresh perspective The title trackIn particular, All Around Man” is played at speed. Both “Ghost Blues “ and “ The Loop” show up. These songs weren’t often played in earlier shows, and are fun.The only bummer is knowing that Rory wouldn’t be around much longer. Let’s pray that more shows from later in his career are released. Note to Gallagher Family, please keep it up!!!!

Rory est un musicien qui a toujours donné le meilleur de lui-même en concert, même à la fin, en 1994 quand il était très diminué physiquement et son Irish Tour ’74 est entré dans la légende des grands live du rock. Des concerts inédits continuent de sortir de temps en temps, ça fait toujours du bien et celui-ci est encore une fois gouleyant. En 2 CD, il nous permet de parcourir une partie de sa carrière dont on possède moins de concerts, en 1990. Il est enregistré à Londres lors de 2 soirs pour la fin de l’année (il souhaite d’ailleurs une bonne année au public à la fin). Rory venait de sortir ce qui allait être son dernier album studio, Fresh Evidence et retrouvait pour la tournée son groupe de fidèles dont l’excellent Gerry McAvoy à la basse. La setlist comprend évidemment des titres de ce dernier album ainsi que de Defender (1987). Le son en est parfait, masterisé aux studios d’Abbey Road (tout est dit quand on a prononcé ce lieu) et ce qui saute tout de suite aux oreilles c’est le côté très « rentre dedans », très rock de Rory lors de ces soirées ! Une énergie brute et sincère, hyper contagieuse, qui donne la pêche dès qu’on l’entend. Ca envoie sec tout du long et même ses classiques (Messin’ with the kid, Tattoo’d lady, Bullfrog blues…) sont envoyés pied au plancher. Bien sûr, le blues est là, c’est le cœur de sa musique et on a bien sûr droit à la partie acoustique habituelle au milieu du concert à partir de Out on the western plains. Mais le 1er rappel est constitué par la reprise de Keep a knockin’, tout un symbole. Rien à redire, c’est à nouveau un chef d’œuvre live qu’on découvre à l’occasion de la parution de cet album. A ne pas louper.

On a tout dit sur RORY du vrai comme du faux ,mais on a oublié de dire qu'il était un des10 meilleurs guitaristes du monde.Habité depuis son plus jeune age par le blues et le rock ,il portera la "bonne parole musicale" dans le monde entier .Ce double album fait suite au "check shirt wizard live in'77" paru en 2020Ce concert est la suite live de l'album "fresh evidence" , qui sera son dernier du temps de son vivant, enregistré à Londres les 28 & 29 décembre 1990.Bien sur il y a "tatoo'd lady", "out the western plains", "messin'with the kid", "bullfrog blues" et une reprise de "when my baby she left me", qu'avait popularisé PRESLEY en 1956 et aussi les nouveaux morceaux du dernier album.Rien à jeter ,juste à prendre son pied durant un peu plus de 100mn, et d'apprécier la musique comme il se doitRory ne fumait pas, n'avait pas de petite amie ,seulement la musique et malheureusement l'alcool et les médicaments à la fin de sa vie.Voilà ,il ne vous reste plus qu'a écouter cet irlandais intemporel ,et d'attendre le prochain arrivage d'un autre live ,car après 77 et 90 ,il en reste encore beaucoup à entendre.

Et c'est tant mieux ! Toujours au top, des interprétations de haut vol, jeu de guitare incisif et des soli de classe. Une prestation de grande qualité et R.G. se donne à fond . Quel bonheur ! On en redemande !Mérite une note de six étoiles.
