What's the seat depth of the chair?

I measured about 20", and the width is about 19.7".

How to insert the casters? They don't seem to screw in and I've tried pushing them on the base but they don't stay. Is there a trick to it?

They do push in, but it takes a little force. Make sure that you are pushing them straight down and not at an angle.

Can this be assembled without the castors?

You can assemble it without. Not sure how it would function. But they are not required
