Great shoe. Durability-TBD
So the fit was great. The support that I was looking for in a daily shoe is excellent. I've had Merrells in the past and I used them for work shoes. The comfort and durability were outstanding. I'm hoping that these Moab 2's can repeat that kind of performance. I like that they're waterproof and so far, they seem very well built and comfortable. I will edit as time passes to update on durability.Later edit: A difficult rock climb up Blue Mountain, and these shoes passed with flying colors. Still waterproof, very steady on uneven surfaces, rocks, roots and extreme ascent and descent. No hotspots, no blisters, very comfortable. I'm liking them a lot.Later later edit: I've now had them for a year and a half. I wear them to work every day. I've flattened out the treads through wear, put them through the mill, wet use, hard use, hiking too... and they've come through. No separations. Waterproofing is still basically intact. I've smooshed out the insoles pretty well and probably need to put an insert in but they're still very comfortable and though looking a bit the worse for wear cosmetically they are still going strong and very intact. I feel that though these were on the expensive side, I've gotten good hard use out of them and they're still going strong. I expect them to last through the winter and make it to two years before replacement time and that's super for everyday work shoes. These were not closet dwellers.

It's a great hiker
As I read in other reviews, and since I also own another pair of Merrill hiking boots I ordered a half size larger than I wear in other hikers. They fit like a dream. I hike a great deal and own or have owned many brands of hiking shoes and boots. Merrills are right up there with the most comfortable and durable. I've only hiked with them for about 18 days now but all of it was off blacktop or sidewalks, in the grass, woods, mud and rocky terrain. They are waterproof as advertised, relatively lightweight, and hug the heel as they should. I did replace the insole as I have on all my hiking shoes and boots. I'd buy them again

What a hiking shoe should be.
I'm a regular jogger so I'm used to wearing good running shoes that are comfortable, provides support and are streamline in built. In comparison, these shoe are stiffer and clunkier. I'm not saying the shoes are bad. I'm telling you to not make the same mistake as I did in comparing them with running shoes (which they are not). After wearing them for 3 long walks, these shoes performed as I expected. They felt like "Frankenstein" shoes at first because of the thick soles and heavy-duty construction. Although I had to stop to re-tie my shoes a couple of times due to the shoe conforming to my feet, I did not experience any pinches, binds, or hot spots. I ordered my usual size (in wide) and it was true to fit. I can tell this shoe will last - worth the price I paid. I also like the looks - kinda like a pickup truck!

Best hiking shoe
Durable yet very comfortable. Good for dry trails or even river/water hiking.

Delivered as promised... not disappointed at all.
Just got back from Inyo County after my first hike in these shoes. Having just retired my Salomon X-Ultra Pros I was wary of switching to Merrell, especially since I loved my Salomons and how comfortable they are.Couple of points:1) They are truly "Wide" and fit my feet perfectly. Just can't seem to find any Salomons that fit any more which is why I switched.2) They didn't seem to feel "nice" when they first arrived, mostly on the sole, so they did require some breaking in... not much though.. a few hours in 3-4 separate wears was enough.3) They are waterproof... I stepped in a stream 200 yards away from the finish of a 7.5 hour hike and my feet came out dry. Lucky for me I didn't get in deeper than the cuff.4) They are warmish given they are waterproof, but I wore wool socks and was able to manage it well. Still, it also requires some camp shoes to wear otherwise these shoes and your feet will get a bit dank.5) The sole is wider and thus more stable than my previous shoes. I have a supinated gait so I had a tendency to roll my ankle, but I didn't have that issue at all on this trip.6) Has a roomy toe box. I have squarish toes so I often have trouble with shoe fit and my pinky toe. Lost a nail once before, but had no issues with these Moabs.Personally loved them; they were comfortable and affordable. I did choose to swap out the laces for some shock cord laces with a spring loaded slide, an inexpensive but very helpful upgrade. If I had to do it over again... well, I would do it all over again. While I was willing to pay more to replace my Salomon's I just couldn't afford to have a shoe that didn't fit on the width. I still think Salomon X-Ultras are more comfortable for me, but because of the natural fit of Merrell, as well as they're reputation, OH, and the wider sole that caused fewer ankle rolls, these Moabs are exactly what I needed.
