A heroic action novel, with characters I could believe in and root for!
Buck is a good friend, so I had just a bit of trepidation about reading and writing a review for his first book, The Last Stand of Dark Horse. NO PROBLEM after reading this novel! Buck is personally devoted to supporting our veterans / heroes, so it is no surprise that he features "bigger than life" military men in his book. What was a mild, and pleasant surprise was the lengths Buck went to (successfully) attempt to make the characters real, live emoting human beings! He made me care about the "good guys and gals" he places in serious harms way, and he fleshes out the character development with non-military friends and romantic interests. Better yet, he made the considerable action believable and exciting... this book was a real page-turner for me. I look forward to Buck's second in the Brice Miller series, hopefully coming soon! Attaboy, Bucko!

I really did enjoy this book because of the excellent character development the author created. The story was one that is appropriate to our time and although at times somewhat unbelievable, could easily happen in this age of terrorism. The author through his story lets us know how aware we have to be what is going on around us in this time when there are so many people in the world who want to eliminate Americans and so many spineless politicians who are afraid to take a stand for fear of insulting others with their lack of political correctness. The storyline was excellent and I look forward to the second of the Bryce Miller series which I understand will deal with gun control issues.

A great read!
A great read! Picked it up, started reading, and couldn't stop. There is a great amount of fact around the characters although written as fiction. Characters are therefore well developed into a great story. Buck really did his homework. You don't have to have a military background to enjoy the novel but if you do have a military background or any kind of Civil Service you will find yourself relating to the story in many different areas. I can see how this could wind up as a fun series.

Dark Horse rocks !!
Great book. Started a little slow, but once I got into the characters and the action started, I could not put it down. Stayed up late at night to finish. Loved the action and the way "Buck" drew the characters into it. Also loved the final battle results...left me feeling great for the good guys. God bless out troops and the brave who protect our freedom. Brice was a top notch example of the qualities in our Marines as well. Buck really got the realities our troop face into clearer focus. Thanks for writing such a great book. Can't wait for the next one !!!!

A Page Turner That Describes a Potential Scenario Related to Terrorism
The author takes great detail to introduce you to the characters early in the first few chapters so one can understand their follow on actions that are believable. The story starts slow but once into the main story it becomes a page turner eagerly looking for the next series of action. Tying in the concept of terrorism involving young children seems real and gives one thought about those seeking to destroy the USA. The characters seem real from the evil ones to the heroes. highly recommend this book for both those w/ military background and to those concerned civilians.

Great storytelling!
First in the line of what will hopefully be a long series of books by Buck Ramsey about Brice Miller, the young marine featured in the book. Brice and his comrades, epitomize the best of the American warrior breed, those who so often give themselves selflessly for their country. Once the story gets going it is very hard to put the book down. The action, suspense and political intrigue make it a compelling read especially in light of the real world threats we face. Anxious for the next in the series!

A FINE STORY MARRED BY POOR PROOFREADING, GRAMMATICAL ERRORS AND IGNORANCE OF POSSESSIVE APOSTROPHES
This book was full of action, perhaps a bit too 'gung-go's for some tastes. The characters were a mix of the unusual and the stereotyped. However, my enjoyment of the narrative was spoiled by the abysmally poor use of singular and plural possessive apostrophes, and elementary grammar and spelling errors. The author needs an experienced proof reader - a spellchecker program is simply no substitute! The story's content is such that I would normally award at least four stars, but, oh, the terminal frustration with poor preparation had me,on several occasions, reluctantly consigning the book to the back-burner.

Gripping adventure of U.S. Marines fighting terrorism in the U.S.
We are repelled by the recent nihilistic terrorist attacks in Paris and California. This recently published book on terrorism in the U.S. is on target, current and a must read. In "Last Stand of Dark Horse" author Buck Ramsey displays an in depth appreciation of post-traumatic stress disorder in a gripping adventure about heroic U.S. Marines saving the lives of school children near Yosemite National Park. I strongly endorse this well written fictional but realistic book on the evil threat of terrorism. I look forward to the next book from the Brice Miller series.
