I did a quick test run with some lightweight veggies on the day that I received the weights. The bag with the weight stayed right where I left it at the start. They do exactly what is needed - no need to mess around with racks, magnets, mugs, or whatever else people use to keep bags down. Just pop one of these weights in with your food and place the bag exactly where you want it in the water.The silicone material feels strong and is easy to hand wash or throw into the dishwasher. Out of curiosity, I checked to see if a magnet could reach to the core of the weight but even my strongest magnet could not get through the silicon.Normally I would hesitate at the idea of having something like this touching my food inside the bag but I just really do trust Greater Goods for some reason. After purchasing many of their products (including their sous vide cooker as shown in the photos!) everything they sell has always been high quality and safe to use.

These are pretty simple devices. They are 4.0"L x 1.4"W x 0.6"D and weigh 4.5 oz. The website lists the temperature range as -22 to 446°F and states that they are dishwasher safe. They have a food grade silicone coating and can go directly into a sous vide bag with the food. I tested the "slickness" of the silicone by putting woodworker's glue directly on one of them. I spread it around and allowed it to dry. I used my fingernail and the glue popped right off so food shouldn't stick to them. We have some silicone measuring cups and they were discolored by tomato-based foods although the cups remained perfectly useable. Just a note of caution - these weights might not have that issue. They are heavy enough to sink a bag of food in a sous vide bath provided you evacuate as much air as possible. You should do this anyway in order for the sous vide to cook properly. Overall, it's a simple device for a simple task and should work well for you.

Small, easy to clean and store, and sufficient weight to hold the bag down in bath. Only down side is the weight slips to bottom of bag so be careful when carrying and whatever you are cooking the sous vide bag will be bottom heavy so top of bag may or may not be in the hot water bath depending.

These weights hold down food safely in plastic bags for the Sous Vide cooking method which is very good as my packages did have a tendency to float. The other thing I love about these weights is they are covered with silicone which withstands 446 degrees according to their information, so they can be laid on a counter as a trivet for pots with boiled contents, etc (I wouldn't put a searing hot frying pan on them, but anything boiling would be safe I figure). Very nice, simple, well designed product.

Perfect for sou vide. Wish they were slightly larger/heavier.
