Thank God this story was not lost to history!
I had never head of this wonderful dog before. I bought this book after I saw the animated film that is out about this wonderful WWI stray dog who really shows us that dogs are man’s best friend. I laughed, cried and could not put the book down. I HIGHLY recommend it for adults and children alike.

This is an amazing tale set against the background of World War I
Every Wednesday my local library sends an email about new acquisitions and Sergeant Stubby was one of them. It was listed under biographies! This is an amazing tale set against the background of World War I, and I learned a lot about this war that my maternal grandfather (who was English) fought in. It chronicles the background of Pvt. Robert Conroy and how he met Stubby, how he smuggled him overseas and to other assignments. Stubby was one in a million, and Conroy, who lived to be 83, never had another dog. Even though I knew Stubby had to die at the end, I cried anyway, that's how much the story affected me. This book is full of wonderful photographs that made me want to get my own copy (which was generously discounted on Amazon). I recommend this book to history buffs, dog-lovers and anyone who enjoys a good story.

Stubby was less a hero than he was great publicity!
The book is well written but I was expecting more of a war story and more about Stubby's exploits during the war, as it happens there really was not a lot of information about his exploits to go on. It is more a biography of his owner and the publicity that Stubby received after the war.. Expecting a heroic dog story, I was disappointed but still found it interesting enough to read. The dog made soldiers and veterans smile and that is good enough for me.

Very pleasant read ...
Very pleasant read. Good rainy day material. Writing style of author makes reading flow. Enjoyed learning about Stubby and his owner because I love animals and stories about WW1 and 2. Nice that the regiment and division were made important throughout. Good advertisement and advice for why things should be donated to institutions that will preserve them.

Disappointed
I was disappointed that the book focused more WWI than stubby. I already knew about WWI and was more interested in learning about stubby. This book did not provide that information. The author also writes a lot about what if or perhaps Stubby and his owner did X and did not provide real info.

Sergeant Stubby was an amazing dog and an American hero
Everyone should be familiar with the exploits of this amazing dog. He was truly a one of a kind. This is a very well written book that everyone from young adults to adults will enjoy.Served in the army myself and would have been quite happy with fellow soldiers as smart and brave as Sgt. Stubby.
