Explores an area that has long intrigued scientists and educators: the linkages between the side of the body we favor for seeing, hearing, touching, and moving and the way we think, learn, play, and relate to others. Your Dominance Profile is actually a key factor in shaping the way you think and act. Carla Hannaford shows why, and reveals how knowing your Profile will help you, and your children, to l earn in the way that suits you best, and perform at your highest level. The Dominance Factor clearly explains methods for discovering your Profile that are so simple, non-invasive and easy to learn that even a child can do them. This is a book that parents, teachers, and all of us who need to understand what makes ourselves and others tick, will use and enjoy.

SEN on the move
I have recently completed a 3 day workshop. The workshop was Bal-A-Vis-X a programe of bean bags and ball exercise. I became intrested in this exercise earlier this year 2011 and, in November 2011 Bill Hebert the founder came to the UK for the first time to train a group of people who needed to know more to help there children and kids.We are the first UK's Assistant Instructors and the youngest was a teenage boy who was brilliant, he was so advanced he was assisting Mr Hebert, what a star. For your every day mum this book may not mean a thing until you are taught how to use it and you really need to be in tune with your child. Like sitting on a fence and just watching them as another child not as your own. This book become so important to me as my son is left handed but right side dominant which explains more then just being told by professionals your child is this and not that.Look up this programe and get bouncing.

My copy is heavily highlited!
This book goes way beyond "Brain Gym" (itself a wonderful piece of work) - Dr. Hannaford goes into great detail about neural networks and how they play a part in awareness, emotion, learning, and of course survival. Although somewhat technical, this information lays solid ground for the later chapters. The information in this book has nicely complemented all of my work. Brian E. Interesting, but where is the evidence base?
I was introduced to this book a few years ago by a work colleague. The idea is that "handedness" has various combinations in indivuduals: eyes, hands, feet, ears, brain and that this can affect learning aptitudes. It's an interesting idea and seems plausible. But I'm not aware of any real evidence base apart from the author's anecdotal observations. The book came out in 1997 and that's long enough ago for some kind of evidence base to have been accumulated. The fact that there dones't seem to be any, suggets that the ideas have not been considered meritorious enough to prompt studies. Perhaps in time some work will be done that establishes some decent clinical evidence.

Excellent Tool to understand & learn your natural approach to learning
Initially I purchased the book about 2 months ago and briefly browsed through it- because I was focused on doing my other coursework.Recently, I attended a workshop in New York City where the author, Carla Hannaford accompanied by her muscially talented husband, Mr. Ahti, presented a workshop where this material was one of the topics discussed. In the workshop also book, Ms. Hannaford talked about how these dominance profiles can help us better understand how teachers and students naturally learn. A comparison was also discussed on how the school system in the US has designed its learning processes to accommodate certain learning styles. This has meant that other people who are of different learning styles--are often labeled unfavorably..the book goes more into detail. The book also explains step by step how to determine your own and others learning dominance profiles, gives descriptions of each, and suggestions on how to help yourself or others during times of stress also how to compensate. For example, with my profile, when I am stressed, I am limited with hearing, seeing & talking..but I move. So when I am stressed I do not talk and require movement. With learning, I am a kinestetic learner..which means a combination of hearing (lecture), pictures (visuals) and doing (applying through movement) what I am learning. An example of what I learned I can do to improve my learning is to write lists of what I need to do..also sit towards the back of the room where I can move without disturbing the others in the class. These profiles can also be used in families or between couples to better understand each others' learning and communication styles and how to help the other person during time of stress. In the workshop, I learned what my natural approach to learning is as well as what happens to that approach when I am under stress. This helped me accept and understand how I learn and what I can do to help myself going forward--both when learning and not under stress as well as functioning when I am stressed. I also worked with a partner in the workshop and by my understanding her profile, I was more patient and compassionate because I understood her needs for learning & communicating.I would recommend this book especially to those who work in the school systems, educators, parents, healers, sports coaches and those who truly want to understand the people in their lives from a more compassionate perspective- based on their natural learning style.

Excellent

Libro eccezionale. Dovrebbe entrare in ogni scuola. Peccato solo in inglese ma non particolarmente difficile da leggere e capire per chi conosce poco la lingua.
