Alfie: (The Turtle That Disappeared)

Purchased to read to my grands ages 3 and 7 as I have a pet turtle. This book’s storyline was wonderful, the pictures engaging and the grands were enthralled! I’m sure it’s going to be read many times!

We love this book. The illustrations are darling and the story telling is so clever and we are always looking for that in books.

SPOILERS INCLUDED:Alfie is the sweetest story about a little girl and her turtle. I don’t even like turtles. They smell and live too long to be a good pet (if you want to live a long time and will do so independently, then good for you. But if you’re living in my home as a pet, I prefer you have a 5 year max life span. Dogs only exception) If we got one today, my kid will have moved out before his turtle. I am not ready to commit to that many years of responsibility and care taking. So kudos to the girls’ parents for even allowing her to get a turtle in the first place. It starts off from the perspective of the girl and then switched mid story to the turtle, so you get to hear both experiences.We first checked this out at the library but I loved it so much I bought it for my 6 year old immediately. So what I’m saying is I could have read this book for free, and I did, but I still went on to pay money for it.

This is the best children's book I have read all year! It has an adorable surprise ending and is just a cute story all together. My daughter brought this book home from the library and I immediate purchased a copy for ourselves and for her friend's 6th birthday.

It also has a fun twist with a change of narrators halfway through the story, telling it from another perspective. Highly recommend!

We have gifted this book 4 times so far this year to children from my son's Kindergarten class, whose birthday parties we have attended. It is the perfect book because it starts off on the main characters' (girl and turtle) six birthdays. It's great for boys and girls and every parent, so far, has thanked me for the unique gift. For the girl party we attended, I paired the book with a bejeweled turtle key chain wrapped in a fancy box. We also own Fraidy Zoo by the same author and my kids are never tired of it.

What a fabulous book! Written from the perspectives of both Nia and her pet turtle, Alfie. A great way to show two sides of the same event (Alfie leaving his tank). Love the story and the amazing illustrations!
