The Good Place: The Complete First Season

"There's been a big mistake."
It's just another day in heaven until Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) shows up. Heaven? Not quite, because if The Good Place was full of Biblical overtones I would have shut if off after a few minutes. Speaking of the first few minutes, they may not reel you in with laughter or inspiration, but after 15 it starts to gel and show promise, once the premise is more fully introduced: Eleanor does not belong in the Good Place since she had not been a good person in life (there are numerous flashbacks to when Eleanor was alive, and although most of us are burnt out on flashbacks as a narrative device, they tend to work well enough for their comedic value here).I don't recall this particular idea being presented in the past, or at least not like this. Yes, the skeletal structure of this sitcom is an old one (the comedy of strife coming out of people forced to live in a small community together, etc.), but The Good Place is bizarre enough that somebody who typically doesn't relish sitcoms (that's me) can find pleasure in it.One of the most humorous aspects thus far is "Janet," a Siri-like data-yielding personality who (unlike Apple's Siri, of course) will actually provide you with the correct answer to any question you wish to know the answer to, except on one topic: the "Bad Place."The thing about Kristen Bell and Ted Danson (the latter portrays the *almost* all-knowing designer of this little corner of heaven) is that audiences tend to have strong feelings about one and/or the other. If neither actor suits you, then The Good Place will obviously be a tough slog. Not only do I love Kristen Bell, but my enjoyment was helped along greatly by the marvelously talented William Jackson Harper as her foil, the one person (if "person" is what you still are when dead) so far in the Good Place who knows her dirty big secret but is giving her a chance, out of the goodness of his heart (after all, he is in the Good Place due to his goodness).A bit formulaic in respects, but also enough room to grow, and there's some wild visuals to help keep you glued while it unfolds. I'll be looking forward to this one as episodes are released.

So, so funny and a unique idea. Perfect character actors!
One of the funniest shows I’ve seen with an extremely witty dialog and idea!

EVERYONE WATCH THIS AMAZING SHOW. I never rate or comment on things ...
I would give it 10 stars if I could.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL. EVERYONE WATCH THIS AMAZING SHOW.I never rate or comment on things but I had to for "The Good Place". I'm a real person I'm not like working for amazon or the company that makes good place or anything, I just love love love love love this show. I just wawtched the season finale and it blew me away. Some people said they saw it coming, but, well, I did NOT. It will make you mad, happy, sad, confused, intrigued, excited, nervous, and every thing else under the sun. The cast is out of the WORLD AMAZING, the script is great, and the premise alone is golden. Seriously, though, even though I'm a little mad that one of my favorite characters is now... well... I won't give away spoilers but those of you who saw the finale know what I'm talking about. How? Wha? But--- anyways please watch if you havent and ABC or NBC whoever the heck makes this show PLEASEEEEE renew it for a second season. I swear once it gets more momentum it could be as big as Lost, just in a different genre and scale.MWAH GOOD PLACE I LOVE YOU and am going to rewatch the season right now I think lol.

VERY unique and fun
I haven't enjoyed new comedy this much in a long time. This show is VERY unique.Kristen Bell is a horrible person who somehow has gone to Heaven due to a clerical error. Chaos ensues. Comedy follows.Ted Danson plays some kind of Heaven administrator. He does the roles very well. It's a quirky new kind of character I'd not seen in a sit com before. Danson makes me believe it.The funniest part is how no one can curse in Heaven so Kristen Bell goes on rants about how that is forking bullshirt and she thinks everyone is an ashhole. It's the funniest play on television profanity since Battlestar Galactica introduced the world to fracking.Unfortunately I don't hold out much hope of a long run for a unique comedy series on a major network. Something like this takes time to develop an audience and networks tend to abandon every show that doesn't have ten million viewers right from the start. So while I really like this after 2 episodes I would bet heavily that NBC will give up on it before the first season is over. I hope I'm wrong!

Entertaining, season cliffhanger makes me seriously question if I will be able to watch season 2 beyond the first episode.
Entertaining, season cliffhanger makes me seriously question if I will be able to watch season 2 beyond the first episode. I found the overall plot refreshing (until the end of the season). The core group of actors worked very well together. I must say this was the best role I've ever seen Ted Danson in. If you're a big fan of Kristen Bell, I believe you will enjoy it. Some scenes with Ted, William Jackson Harper and D'Arcy Carden had me in laughing so hard I cried. It took a few episodes to get going for me, it's such a bizarre story. But once I gained an understanding of the characters the comedy kicked in and won me over. Even the season cliffhanger is creative writing, but I'm not sure I will be able to stick with it if isn't corrected in the first episode of Season 2. Sorry to be vague but you'll understand what I mean if you watch it, I don't want to spoil it.

The Good Place season 1 DVD
I'd honestly give this more than 5 stars if possible. Always wanted to see it but just decided to buy this to see if funny. WAY more funny than even thought. After you die it's not heaven or hell it's a good place or the bad place. The main person Eleanor accidently gets sent to the good place where she IN NO WAY belongs. That causes a lot of crazy things to happen. Ted Danson is the guy who designed this good place and he admires humans so much he wants to live there too. With a ton of funny people and insane stuff you will not be able to not laugh out loud. I swear it brought me to tears. I have a few more to watch and it looks like not everything is as it was said to be BUT SO FUNNY.

It’s genuinely exceptional
I’m only reviewing the show as my blu ray hasn’t come yet. It’s a truly exceptional show. If someone had told me I could love a comedy about moral philosophy I’d have called them an idiot but they said in the podcast that the writers were given rules and that rule number one was that every episode is funny and it is. The many people who are being criticised for being sjw’s and ruining franchises could learn a huge amount from Michael Schur. It’s only a short season of thirteen episodes so things happen quickly and it’s best not to learn much about the show because it’s more fun if you’re unaware of the twists in the story. The only problem is that for season one Ted Danson has to be a bit underused, you learn why it’s necessary and he’s used more in season two. It does make you think, it’s impossible not to learn a bit of moral philosophy but it’s not forced on you. The actors are great and Ted Danson and Kristen Bell have great chemistry but the other characters are also important and they get plenty of screen time. I hope it runs for many years and I can’t wait for season three because there’s not a lot of things being made that are as good as this. I know he’s also made stuff like Parks and Rec and Brooklyn nine nine but this is even better. I’m visually impaired but I’ve heard that every episode there’s Easter eggs for the really devoted fans but even if you’re a casual fan there’s lots to laugh at. I also recommend the podcast where each episode of the show gets it’s own podcast with appropriate guests on it.

A great bluray of a great show!
The Good Place is without a doubt one of my favourite shows of all time, though as a philosophy student I might be slightly biased towards it! For those that do not know about the show, it is a tale of four people who wake up in the after life. However, one of them has been sent there accidentally, and her existence in 'the good place' causes havoc. For those who are not religious, do not let the premise put you off, as the show really does not pander to any particular religious demographic. While the show is set in 'the good place' it is not any version of 'heaven' promoted by something like Christianity or Islam. The show is first and foremost a comedy, and an excellent one. There is not a single episode in this boxset that fails to have me laughing, and the same can be said of all three seasons. All of the actors play their parts very well, and play off of each other very well.It is also a smart show, with clever storylines, well written characters, character development, and an excellent story arc in each season. There is also a good blend of philosophy in the show. While this may put some off, and the philosophy is an integral part of the show, it is relevant to the story line itself. It is used in a way that adds to show, rather than feeling forced. It is also never over complicated, and you do not need to be a philosophy student in order to understand it.The only disappointing thing about the boxset is that it contains no extras, apart from the extended episodes. It would have been nice to have some outtakes, or some interviews, or some commentary from the writers, directors, and/or cast. The extended parts of the episodes do add somewhat to it, and they are noticeable for most of the episodes if you have watched them a few times. However, you can also see why those parts were trimmed out for broadcast, as they change the tone on occasion, and their removal tightens up the pace and the timing.Overall, I'd recommend the set to any fan of The Good Place. It's cheap considering it's a full season, and as to be expected the picture quality is superb. Better than on HDTV and on Netflix. It also has extra Good Place goodness in most episodes! If you're not already a fan, then it may be worth checking out the show on somewhere like Netflix before purchasing. Though everybody should be a fan of this show!

Watch it once- then once again in your head...
The Good Place invaded my dreams from the first programme. We watched an episode each night, the whole family lined up on the sofa, and then, after the final episode, watched it all over again in our heads. Watch it to find out why...A colleague at work asked me to sum it up, and an Aussie colleague butted in:'It's Jeremy-Beremy', she said. And that's all I'm saying.

The Good Place is just too good to be true
The Good place sounds great who doesn't want to go to heaven when they die but would you want to spend eternity there? The main character finds herself dead & against all the odds in Heaven!! where everyone is just too good to be true, you follow her trying to fit in as one thing after another goes wrong. Good series you alternately think they are all idiots & want them to succeed. a slightly surprising twist at the end leaves you realising why there has to be a season 2/3/….

Surprisingly good
this is not the sort of television that I would normally watch. I initially started watching because the episodes were quite short. I was not that impressed with the 1st few episodes, but then I realised that the writers were weaving a deeper plot. After this I was hooked. I really like the plot twists and turns, which I won't spoil for you.Take a chance with this and you will enjoy it.
