Interesting, Usable
This slim volume comes with plenty of helpful photographs and line drawings, and is a good starter book for learning about Victorian domestic architecture. It has an excellent section on bathrooms, logical given that the bathrooom as we know it was invented during the Victorian period.I would have liked more common floorplans from the era - but this IS a book aimed primarily at helping renovators identify the period of their home so they can carry out their reenovations as sympathetically as possible.Well organised into different time periods and types of rooms, plenty of good background information and a good overall look at architecture of the period.

A must for Victorian history lovers, DIY renovators and/or historical fiction writers
This book is a great resource for me. Trevor Yorke's books are always well researched and interesting.A must for Victorian history lovers, DIY renovators and historical fiction writers who want to imagine/capture an accurate sense of place in their stories. Highly recommended.

Just the kind of book you want when trying to sleuth around a building.
This book fits nicely into a bag or with your notes and easy to hold while you are looking around a building. Little line images are ideal. The text is not overloaded but still has sufficient information. I am much more somebody who looks at books arather than read them so the balance for me is fine - I now look out for the relevant books by Trevor Yorke. won't break the bank and serves it's purpose.

Good general guide to Victorian houses
I bought this book as I live in a Victorian basement flat and I wanted to know what the layout of the rooms would have been during the Victorian era. This book didn't entirely do that but it is a good general guide to all things Victorian. I can see from the shallow depth of the fireplace in my 'front' room what it would have looked like from the book but would still like to know more.A good concise little book.

Excellent Coverage of Victorian Houses and Living
For anyone who wants a compendium of the architecture, terminology and living styles of the Victorian period, this book is an invaluable guide. It is very helpful if one, like me, is trying to explain to others or understand better, in informed detail, especially builders and surveyors, about things you want done or need to know about. I would recommend this book to anyone. Great value.
