Prelude a L'Apres-MIDI D'Un Faune/Trois Nocturnes (Dover Miniature Music Scores) [Paperback] Claude Debussy Paperback – 29 February 2000

Love these pieces of music Now I can sight read the music as I hear it.

Doverのミニチュア･スコアで、縦寸は21.5cmくらい。「夜想曲」は全音オイレンブルクから縦寸19cmくらいの日本版が出ており、DOVERは版がほんのちょっと大きいだけで、五線譜の印刷自体はさほど変わらないはずなのですが、大きい版は印刷が広々した感じで、見やすいです。そして何より、日本版よりもDover版の方が安くてお得です。ですが、このDoverは誤植が多い。甚だしく多い。イヤになるほど多い。付くべき臨時記号が付いてない箇所なんか、もはや可愛いもので、クラリネットがいつの間にかA管からBb管に替わっていたり（どこで替わったんだよ！）、チェロがヘ音記号からハ音記号に変わっていたり（印刷がヘ音のままじゃねーかよ！）、第2ヴァイオリンとヴィオラが交錯していたり（どっちなんだよ！）、とにかくワケの判らんスコアです。大抵の誤植は、前後関係から判断できますが、臨時記号の有無は、箇所によっては、絶対音感でもない限り判定不能。有でも無でも音楽的には綺麗に聞こえるので、どっちが正解かわかりません。「海の精」のフルートがナチュラルでコーラスがシャープという食い違い箇所は、どっちが正しいのか、結局わからないです。というような、安価だけど問題の多いスコアです。安いから星四つ。でも誤植があるのは致命的だ。だから星二つ。いやいや、印刷が見やすいよ。じゃ星三つ。

This Dover Miniature Score comes with two complete works, Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faune (1894) and Three Nocturnes (1899). With a $6.95 list price this score package is a steal and far cheaper than looking for a free digital download that you have to print, 3-hole punch, and then put into a binder. The book is larger than a typical pocket score. With dimensions of 6.5" x 8.5" it's closer in size to the British Foolscap Quarto, thus making it easy to read, carry around, and for composers, students, and conductors to mark up and put notes in. While a reprint of the original work, the music notation, even on this reduced score size, is clear and quite readable. Dover has done an outstanding job on this edition.

I thought the print (and overall size) was going to be way bigger than this. So hard to see detail for study. It’s also difficult (near impossible) to fold flat. There is no way you could use this for a rehearsal.
