KS2 Mental Maths Workout - Year 4
This is one of a series of Mental Maths Workout books, aimed at primary age children. This particular one is for Year 4 (so ages 8-9) and covers all the mental maths skills for that year group. The CGP workbooks are generally pretty basic in terms of design – black and white pages and none of the stickers or bright colours used in many other workbooks. However, they are well laid out, contain more actual questions than many of the more colourful workbooks and are very good value. With answers at the back of the book, this workbook is split into two parts.Part One has Number, Word and ‘Real Life’ Problems. There are 26 exercises in all and each exercise has three parts – A, B and C. The A questions are called ‘start up’ questions and are generally quite straightforward e.g. 135 + 20 = ? The B questions are ‘Into Gear” and are also quite simple, but are ‘word’, rather than number problems – for example, ‘make ten 5 times larger.’ Lastly, Section C are the ‘tough challenge’ questions and often include more than one step, such as, “Three chocolate bars cost £1.50. How many bars could be bought with £2.50?”Part Two consists of 24 timed tests. These are quite small – there are four tests on each page and only ten questions in each test. However, they are useful if you do not have much time or just want to spend a few minutes honing your child’s mental maths skills. There is a useful record sheet at the back of the book to record scores and progress.

Helped with maths during lockdown
Great work book, easy to understand, helped my son with his mental maths through lockdown and wasn't long winded, he didnt mind doing the activities compared to other workbooks.

Great book - love the questions
My son is at level 3 at the moment and I really like this no nonsense book. Though I do not find it particularly easy for some one at level 3c, what use would it be if it were easy? I need my child to be challenged and get thinking. Though I use other books as well, I like this book better than the others.

perfect challenge for level 3
This book is aimed at children who are in year 2 on level 3. As a mum I was searching for a book which is specifically formatted keeping level 3 pupils in mind. If you are looking for something challenging for your child in year 2 on level 3, this is a reallly good practice book. Excellent value for money
